Talent Nation has been engaged by Market Forces to appoint their inaugural Chief Campaigns Officer (CCO). This executive appointment offers the mandate to shape a nationally and internationally significant campaigns portfolio, directing sophisticated strategies that influence how major financial institutions and corporations respond to climate risk and the transition away from fossil fuels.
The Organisation
Market Forces is campaigning to protect the environment by shifting finance away from the fossil fuels which are driving global climate change. The team holds banks, superannuation funds and other investors to account for financing environmentally damaging activities, from coal and gas expansion to the erosion of climate commitments by major financial institutions. Their work spans Australia, Asia and beyond, wherever the intervention can create the greatest impact, and is grounded in a shared commitment to Empowerment, Integrity, Impact and Creativity as its core values.
The Role
Reporting directly to the CEO, the CCO will set the strategic direction and performance expectations for Market Forces' campaigns portfolio. Leading four senior leaders across Campaigns, Research and Communications, you will align intelligence, strategy, narrative and mobilisation behind shared priorities, ensuring resources are directed to the campaigns with the greatest potential for measurable impact.
The role offers substantial scope to shape climate and environmental outcomes in Australia and internationally, strengthen Market Forces' campaigning capability and contribute as a senior leader to the organisation's long-term effectiveness and resilience.
As CCO you will
- Define the overarching campaign strategy, establish portfolio priorities and make disciplined choices about where Market Forces can exert the greatest influence.
- Integrate campaign strategy, research and communications so that robust evidence informs clear audience choices, compelling narratives and coordinated action.
- Lead and develop a talented group of senior leaders, building capability, accountability and organisational resilience.
- Partner closely with the CEO and Executive Leadership Team on organisational strategy, governance and decision-making.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with funders, partners, allied organisations, media and other key stakeholders.
- Act as a senior external voice for Market Forces, building authority with decision-makers and strengthening the organisation's standing across climate, finance, corporate and advocacy networks.
What Success Looks Like
- Campaign impact - the portfolio demonstrates a clear contribution to changes in financial-sector and corporate policy, practice and capital allocation.
- Strategic alignment - Campaigns, Research and Communications work to shared priorities, with clear decision rights, coordinated planning and disciplined allocation of resources.
- Leadership excellence - building a high-performing, accountable and values-led leadership culture.
- Sector influence - enhancing Market Forces' credibility, profile and influence with key stakeholders.
- Executive partnership - the CEO and Executive Leadership Team receive clear strategic advice, constructive challenge and coordinated support for consequential organisational decisions.
About You
You are an accomplished campaigns leader with the judgement to identify points of leverage, make disciplined strategic choices and build alignment around a shared purpose. You can translate complex financial,
corporate and environmental issues into campaigns that combine rigorous evidence, compelling communication and clear pathways to influence. You have also led senior, multidisciplinary teams through complexity, balancing ambition with accountability and sustained organisational performance.
You will bring a deep alignment with Market Forces' mission, values and purpose, together with a genuine commitment to accelerating the transition away from fossil fuels through ambitious, constructive and evidence-based campaigning.
What You Will Bring
- Significant senior leadership experience in campaigning, advocacy, communications or a related field.
- A record of setting organisation-wide campaign strategy, making clear portfolio choices and converting strategic influence into material outcomes.
- Demonstrated success leading senior teams and developing future leaders.
- Experience working with executive stakeholders, boards, funders, partners and external influencers.
- Strong strategic thinking and the ability to translate complexity into clear priorities and action.
- The authority, judgement and presence to represent Market Forces credibly with senior decision-makers, institutional stakeholders, media and sector partners.
