About the role

Sydney Harbour Attractions operates a diverse range of marine tourism experiences on Sydney Harbour, including Thunder Jet, Harbour Jet, Whitehaven Cruises, Sydney Harbour Whale Watching and Darling Harbour Water Taxis.

With more than 25 years of marine tourism experience, we are looking for additional Commercial Skippers to join our growing team.

With the upcoming charter and tourism seasons approaching, we are looking to build a robust team of skippers who are interested in working across our various operations. We have casual and full-time opportunities available for the right candidates.

The successful applicants will have sound boat-handling and navigational skills, a strong commitment to safety and a genuine passion for working with people.

Jet boat experience is not essential. Comprehensive paid training will be provided to suitable candidates who have the right boating skills, attitude and customer-service focus.

This is a varied role. In addition to skippering our vessels, skippers may assist across other areas of the business, including customer service, boarding and sales, and supporting our charter operations during busy periods.

The role also involves providing fun, light-hearted commentary about Sydney Harbour, so excellent communication skills and an outgoing personality are important.

Job tasks and responsibilities

- Safely operate company vessels on Sydney Harbour.
- Complete daily safety checks of vessels, engines and equipment.
- Conduct safe passenger boarding and disembarking.
- Provide a high level of customer service and passenger care.
- Provide engaging and entertaining commentary about Sydney Harbour.
- Follow all company safety procedures, policies and operational requirements.
- Carry out basic vessel maintenance and assist maintenance crews where required.




- Assist with customer sales and other operational duties when not skippering.
- Support charter and tourism operations across the business during peak periods.
- Maintain a high standard of personal presentation and professionalism.
- Contribute to a positive, energetic and fun workplace culture.

Skills and experience

- Current Coxswain Grade 1 or higher commercial qualification.
- Strong boat-handling and navigational skills.
- Experience operating vessels in busy waterways is highly desirable.
- Jet boat experience is advantageous but not essential – full paid training is provided.
- Current First Aid Certificate.
- Strong communication and customer-service skills.
- Professional presentation and a positive, outgoing personality.
- A strong commitment to safety.
- Basic mechanical knowledge is desirable but not essential.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
