Make a meaningful difference in the lives of veterans’ families Northern Queensland Legacy is seeking an experienced and compassionate Community Services Officer to provide practical, person-centred support to beneficiaries and their families. This newly created role will suit someone who builds trust easily, approaches sensitive conversations with empathy and professionalism, and enjoys working within a collaborative, close-knit team.

The role - Your responsibilities will include:

- Completing intake and needs assessments for new and existing beneficiaries.
- Providing case management, advocacy, information and referrals.
- Supporting people experiencing bereavement, vulnerability, social isolation or complex circumstances.
- Helping beneficiaries navigate veteran, community and aged-care support services.
- Coordinating complex cases and escalating welfare concerns appropriately.
- Supporting volunteer Legatees who regularly visit beneficiaries.
- Building relationships with government, ex-service and community organisations.
- Maintaining accurate and confidential client records.
- Assisting with client events and broader team activities when required.





About you - You are empathetic without being overprotective and can support people through difficult circumstances while preserving their dignity and independence. You will bring:
- A degree in Social Work, Community Services qualification or equivalent.
- At least two years’ relevant experience.
- Experience in assessment, advocacy, referral or case management.
- Strong communication, organisation and record-keeping skills.
- Sound professional judgement, confidentiality and boundaries.
- Confidence working independently and contributing to a small team.
- A current driver’s licence and willingness to travel to regional areas, including Bowen, Ingham and Charters Towers.

Experience working with veterans, Defence families, aged care, ex-service organisations or volunteer-based organisations will be highly regarded. What’s on offer

The role will initially be office-based in Townsville, with some flexibility available once established. The successful applicant will be required to obtain or hold relevant screening, including a National Police Check and Blue Card. Expected commencement: Mid to late October 2026.
