About the role

The DBA is responsible for the operational management, security, performance, resilience and continuous improvement of database platforms supporting critical services.

Primary Responsibilities

- Operate and support SQL Server, PostgreSQL and AWS RDS environments.
- Maintain database availability, performance, capacity, backup and recovery capabilities.
- Manage database security, privileged access, credentials and compliance obligations.
- Support incident, problem, change and release management activities.
- Participate in on-call support and major incident response.
- Drive automation, monitoring, observability and operational improvements.
- Support application teams with deployments, troubleshooting and solution design.
- Assist with cloud modernisation, database upgrades and AWS multi-account initiatives.

Database

- SQL Server administration
- PostgreSQL administration
- Backup, recovery and disaster recovery
- Performance tuning and optimisation
- Database security and access management

Cloud

- AWS RDS
- AWS IAM and RBAC
- CloudWatch monitoring
- Highly available cloud platforms

Operations

- ITIL Incident, Problem, Change and Service Request Management

- Production support and troubleshooting

- Runbook development

- Capacity and performance management

Desirable Skills

- PowerShell, Python and automation scripting
- Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation, CDK, Terraform)

- SQL Always On

- PostgreSQL replication
- AWS multi-account environments

- FinOps and cost optimisation

- DevOps and CI/CD practices

- Container platforms (ECS)





Mandatory Requirements Candidate must be an Australian Citizen with NV1 Security Clearance

What Success Looks Like A successful DBA will:

- Maintain highly available and recoverable database platforms.
- Eliminate single points of failure.
- Automate routine operational activities.
- Deliver SQL Server and PostgreSQL lifecycle upgrades.
- Improve database performance and cost efficiency.
- Support Tax Time and other critical business events.
- Build internal capability and reduce reliance on external SMEs.
