Full-time permanent preferred | Croydon South | Monday–Friday $70,000 – $90,000 + super (depending on experience)

Casual considered upon negotiation.

· Company tools and dedicated workshop with a Molnar hoist · Uniform/PPE supplied

· Opportunities for upskilling including training in excavator, chainsaw/chipper operation, truck license.

The Work

Platypus Environmental Services is an established Victorian environmental civil and natural resource management contractor (est. 2008). We deliver waterway rehabilitation, civil construction, tree/vegetation management, weed control and NRM projects across Victoria. Our fleet is approximately 28 vehicles plus excavators, trucks, chippers, and other specialist plant. You will work primarily from our Croydon South depot and be responsible for:

· Scheduled servicing and preventative maintenance of fleet vehicles and plant

· Mechanical, electrical and cooling system fault finding and diagnostics

· Brake, suspension, steering and driveline inspections and repairs

· 2-stroke maintenance and repairs

· Identifying and addressing emerging mechanical issues before they become failures

· Managing service schedules and maintenance records

· Advising management of upcoming repairs and maintenance requirements

· Maintaining a safe, clean and organised workshop

What Makes This Different

You are not one of twelve technicians on a production line. You will own the mechanical condition of the whole fleet and set up and run the preventative maintenance program.



That ownership and autonomy is the core of the role. When the workshop is quiet or when maintenance workload allows, there is opportunity to get involved in field operations (operating or assisting with excavators, trucks, chippers, chainsaws and other plant) if you want that mix.

About You

Essential

· Australian trade qualification as a Vehicle Mechanic, Diesel Mechanic or Heavy Commercial / Plant Fitter · 4+ years post-trade experience on commercial vehicles and/or mixed plant

· Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills – comfortable working without a service advisor standing over you

· Happy in a small team and willing to own schedules, parts chasing and records

· Professional, reliable, safety-focused, positive communication and attention to detail

Desirable (not essential)

· Excavator operation experience · Truck driving and/or machinery floating experience

· Tree work, including felling, climbing and chipper operation

· 2-stroke servicing, maintenance and repairs

Why This Role

You will own the mechanical upkeep of a 28-vehicle plus plant fleet for an established Victorian environmental contractor, from a dedicated Croydon South workshop, with field work only when the workshop allows. Stable ongoing work, opportunity for the role to grow as the fleet and operations grow, and real autonomy over the preventative maintenance system.
