Details: The Chief Minister, Treasury and Economic Development Directorate (CMTEDD) leads the public sector and works collaboratively both within government and with the community to achieve positive outcomes.

The Policy and Cabinet Division sits within the CMTEDD. The division is dynamic, connected and diverse, and plays a key role in the development of ACT government policy. As Director, you will contribute to our positive and energised culture within the division.

This role provides a unique opportunity for you to contribute and work collaboratively to deliver complex and diverse range of policies aligned to the strategic aspirations and future direction of the government. You will have strong stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills with extensive experience in leading large and often complex program delivery and people management critical to the role.

You will also be required to build strong relationships across the public service and with key external stakeholders, to provide whole of government governance support and strategic policy advice to the Executive and Ministers in relation to Cabinet matters and Government priorities within the Branch’s portfolio responsibilities.

Policy and Cabinet also leads the development and implementation of the ACT Wellbeing Framework. A critical element in developing wellbeing-focused policies and programs, and understanding their impacts, is building evidence, data and insights to support design and evaluation. We are building wellbeing analysis into ACT Government decision making and reporting processes and strengthening our evaluation culture.

This recruitment process will establish a merit pool at the Senior Officer Grade B (SOGB) level for roles in Policy and Cabinet.

Immediate vacancies to be filled from this process are:

- P49990A 12-month SOGB role in the Regional, Infrastructure, Planning and Transport Branch of the Intergovernmental and Strategic Policy Group (with possibility of extension and/or permanency).
- P50050 A three-month SOGB role in the Wellbeing Branch of the Wellbeing, Governance and Policy Capability Group (with the possibility of extension).

Eligibility/Other Requirements: Qualification/s in relevant subject area including but not limited to economics, law, public policy, social sciences and planning are desirable. Note: There are two temporary positions available, P49990 - immediate start for 12 months with a possibility of extension and/or permanency and P50050 available from 20 October 2026 to 8 January 2026 with a possibility of extension up to 12 months. A merit pool will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill future identical vacancies over the next 12 months.



Selection may be based on application and referee reports only and interviews may not necessarily be held.

This position operates in an activity-based working (ABW) workplace. Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk. This position does not require a pre-employment medical and does not require a Working with Vulnerable People Check.
