About ECG Electrical

ECG Electrical is an established and growing electrical contracting business operating across the ACT and Queensland.

With approximately 65 employees, we deliver residential and commercial solar, battery storage, electrical, air conditioning, EV charging and energy-efficiency solutions. We are now looking for an experienced electrical engineer to take a leading role in the technical development of our renewable-energy operations.

This is not solely a system-design position. We are seeking someone who understands the solar and battery industry but also has strong IT, software and systems-integration capabilities. The successful applicant will help us improve how projects are designed, priced, documented and delivered—from the initial customer enquiry through to installation and handover.

About the Role

As our Lead Electrical Engineer, you will provide technical leadership across solar PV, battery storage and broader electrification projects.

You will work closely with our sales, operations, installation and management teams to improve system designs, solve complex technical issues and develop more efficient and automated business processes.

A major part of the role will involve connecting engineering knowledge with technology. This may include integrating our CRM, solar-design software, mapping platforms, product databases and quoting systems to reduce manual work and improve the accuracy and consistency of our proposals.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the technical design and review of residential and commercial solar PV and battery systems.

- Review panel layouts, equipment selections, single-line diagrams, cable sizing, protection requirements and network connection requirements.

- Develop standardised engineering and design processes across the business.

- Provide technical support for complex installations, fault finding and escalated customer or manufacturer issues.

- Work with sales and operations teams to ensure proposed systems are practical, compliant and accurately costed.

- Help automate the preparation of solar, battery and whole-home electrification proposals.





- Assist with the integration of platforms such as Pipedrive, OpenSolar, Nearmap, HelioScope and other quoting or operational systems.

- Develop rules and workflows that automatically select suitable equipment, pricing, installation allowances and required project documentation.

- Use APIs, databases and automation tools to reduce double handling and improve the flow of information between systems.

- Maintain product, pricing and engineering databases.

- Liaise with manufacturers, electricity networks, inspectors, consultants and other industry stakeholders.

- Review technical standards and regulatory changes and communicate their practical impact to the business.

- Mentor designers, estimators, electricians and project staff.

- Help develop new products and services across solar, batteries, EV charging, air conditioning and energy management.

About You To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

- A recognised qualification in electrical engineering.

- Practical experience within the Australian solar and battery industry.

- Solid knowledge of solar PV, battery storage, inverters, switchboards, grid connections and electrical protection.

- Experience designing or reviewing residential and commercial renewable-energy systems.

- A sound understanding of the Australian standards and regulatory requirements applying to solar and battery installations.

- Strong IT knowledge and experience working with business software, system integrations or process automation.

- An understanding of APIs, databases, data mapping and cloud-based software platforms.

- Experience with solar-design or engineering platforms such as OpenSolar, HelioScope, Nearmap, PVSyst or similar.

- The ability to turn technical and operational requirements into clear,



repeatable processes.

- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to investigate unfamiliar technical issues.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

- The ability to work effectively with management, salespeople, electricians, apprentices, customers and external stakeholders.

Experience in software development, scripting, artificial intelligence, CRM implementation or workflow automation would be highly regarded but is not essential.

Relevant solar, battery, engineering or electrical licences and accreditations will also be highly regarded.
