Brockman Community House is seeking a friendly, patient and enthusiastic English Tutor to facilitate our free Conversational English Classes for our multicultural community.

Mondays during school terms 12:00pm–1:30pm

About the Role The tutor will plan and deliver engaging, practical English lessons designed to build participants’ confidence and everyday communication skills.

Classes will assist participants with:

- Basic conversational English, pronunciation and vocabulary
- Reading, writing and grammar skills
- Making appointments, including with GPs, Medicare and Centrelink
- Completing forms and everyday tasks
- Using public transport
- Accessing local services and community supports
- Building confidence communicating in everyday situations

Contractor Arrangement

This position is offered on a term-by-term independent contractor basis, with each agreement covering the relevant school term.

The successful tutor will be required to:

✓ Hold a current ABN (Australian Business Number) and operate through an appropriately registered business





✓ Provide an invoice to Brockman Community House at the end of each term

✓ Manage their own taxation, GST obligations (where applicable) and relevant business requirements

✓ Hold appropriate insurance as required

✓ Enter into a current agreement for each school term, subject to ongoing program requirements

Essential Requirements

✓ Current Working with Children Check

✓ Current National Police Clearance

✓ Ability to develop and implement appropriate lesson plans

✓ Strong communication and interpersonal skills

✓ Patient, welcoming and inclusive approach

✓ Ability to work respectfully with people from diverse cultural and language backgrounds

Experience in English language tutoring, ESL/EAL, adult education or community services would be highly regarded.
