The Role

n

To assist in planning, preparing and providing healthy meals for young children accessing our Early Learning Centre in a manner that is enthusiastic and God honouring, consistent with the school's vision to provide a Christ-centred education in a learning community of Love, Nurture and Service.

n

The Assistant Cook is responsible to the Principal through the Head of Early Learning and Junior School and Director of the Early Learning Centre.

n

This is an ongoing part-time position, 2 days a week.

n

Key Areas of Responsibility

n

n
- Assist in the planning and reviewing of nutritionally balanced meals consistent with nutrition guidelines.
n
- Assist in the preparation and cooking of meals including – morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and late snack.
n
- Familiarity with special dietary needs and allergies and provision of appropriate meal alternatives.
n
- Supporting the children's program by involving the children in cooking and kitchen activities as appropriate including growing herbs and vegetables to use in meals.
n
- Supporting children's food choices and overall development by providing opportunities for children to serve their own food at every meal.
n
- Support the coordination of the kitchen including ordering and purchasing of supplies within the allocated budget and maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen and dining room.
n
- Awareness and use of health and safety guidelines.
n
- Establishing of positive partnerships with the children, families and the school and wider community.
n




- Overseeing and attending to the ELC laundry needs.
n

Contribute to a safe and healthy workplace by

- Following Work Health and Safety instructions and policies.
n
- Reporting accidents and hazards.
n
- Generally caring for own safety and that of others, including visitors, students, parents and volunteers that may possibly be affected by actions or inaction.
n

Other duties

n

n
- Participate in and support the faith community of the School through prayer and communal worship activities.
n
- Model the faith and values of the School in interactions with colleagues, students, parents and the wider community.
n
- Attend staff meetings on days when rostered to attend for work.
n
- Attend the annual whole staff retreat.
n
- Attend devotions on days and times when at work. All staff are welcome to voluntarily attend staff devotions outside of their allocated work times.
n
- Participate in school activities requiring staff participation.
n
- Other duties as required.
n

Selection Criteria

n

n
- Be a committed Christian with a clear understanding of, and support for, education in a Christian School setting.
n
- Ability to provide healthy and nutritious meals for children.
n
- Robust organisational and time management skills.
n
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work positively and collaboratively in a team environment.
n

Essential Qualifications and Requirements

n

The successful applicant will have:

n

- Food Safety and Handling certification (or willingness to obtain)
