Family & Household Assistant

Wagga Wagga | Monday–Friday | 25–30 hours per week

We are a busy family of six living on a rural property near Wagga Wagga, looking for a reliable, practical and kind Family & Household Assistant to become a regular part of our household.

This is an ongoing role of approximately 5–6 hours per day, Monday to Friday, generally around 25–30 hours per week.

The role is primarily about helping our home and family run smoothly. It is not predominantly a nanny position. The focus is household cleaning, laundry, organisation, kitchen and meal support, errands, animals, cars, outdoor jobs and generally taking some of the everyday workload out of running a busy family home.

We are looking for someone who is happy with variety and who takes genuine satisfaction in getting things done.

What the Role May IncludeCleaning & Household Care

- Routine household cleaning
- Deep cleaning and periodic larger cleaning jobs
- Vacuuming, mopping, bathrooms and kitchen cleaning
- Dusting and general household tidying
- Changing bed linen and making beds
- Cleaning windows and other periodic jobs
- Keeping common areas tidy and functional
- Fridge, pantry and cupboard cleaning

Laundry
- Washing and drying
- Folding and putting clothes away
- Changing linen and towels
- Ironing where required
- Keeping school, work and sporting clothes organised

Organisation & Decluttering
- Helping organise cupboards, wardrobes, pantry and storage areas
- Sorting and decluttering alongside the family
- Creating practical systems to help keep the house organised
- Helping maintain those systems over time

We would love someone who is happy to help take some of the pressure out of busy family mealtimes.

This may include

- Helping prepare simple family meals
- Getting dinner started on busy days
- Basic meal preparation such as chopping vegetables, preparing salads, marinades and side dishes
- Following straightforward recipes
- Batch cooking or preparing freezer meals where appropriate




- Preparing school lunches and snacks
- Preparing fruit, snacks and other food ahead for the week
- Grocery shopping or Click & Collect
- Unpacking and putting groceries away
- Keeping the fridge, freezer and pantry organised
- Keeping an eye on commonly used food and household staples
- Rotating food and checking expiry/use-by dates
- Dishwasher, dishes and general kitchen reset
- Cleaning kitchen benches, appliances and surfaces
- Occasional baking or food preparation for school, visitors or family events

You don't need to be a professional cook — we're simply looking for someone who is comfortable in the kitchen and happy to help with straightforward family food preparation. Cars & Errands
- Washing family cars
- Vacuuming and cleaning car interiors
- General car clean-outs
- Collecting groceries, parcels or supplies
- Post office and shop returns
- Taking or collecting items around town
- Occasional family pickups or drop-offs as required

A current driver's licence is essential.

Animals

We have animals and live on a rural property, so being genuinely comfortable around animals is important.

Jobs may include

- Feeding animals
- Filling water bowls
- Washing bowls and bedding
- Cleaning animal areas
- Walking dogs
- Picking up pet food or supplies
- Helping with general day-to-day animal care

Rural Property & Outdoor Jobs There will also be a mixture of simple outdoor and property jobs, which may include:
- Sweeping and tidying outdoor areas
- Watering
- Weeding
- Light gardening
- Cleaning verandas and outdoor spaces
- Bins
- Cleaning animal areas
- Washing outdoor furniture
- Helping organise sheds or storage areas
- Other general jobs around the property

This isn't intended to be a heavy gardening or farm-labour position, but we would like someone who is comfortable getting outside and getting their hands dirty when needed. The Person We Are Looking For The most important thing to us is finding the right person.

Our household can sometimes be busy and a little chaotic, so we are particularly looking for someone who isn't easily flustered and doesn't expect everything to already be perfectly organised.

About Us

We are a busy working family with four children, animals and a rural property.

Our weeks are full, and we are looking for someone who can become a trusted extra pair of hands and gradually learn how our household works.

Some days might involve a thorough house clean and several loads of washing. Another day might involve groceries, getting dinner started, washing the cars, changing beds, organising a cupboard and helping with the animals.

We don't expect one person to do everything every day. The aim is to have someone consistently helping us stay on top of the household rather than constantly catching up.

Over time, we would love this person to recognise the regular rhythms of the household and help keep things moving without needing a detailed list every morning.

Hours

Monday to Friday

Approximately 5–6 hours per day

There may be some flexibility around exact start and finish times for the right person.

This is intended to be a regular, ongoing position rather than occasional cleaning work.

Requirements

- Current driver's licence – essential
- Reliable transport
- Comfortable around children and animals

- References

A police check would be highly regarded, and previous experience in housekeeping, cleaning, family assistance, support work, hospitality, childcare, animal care or a similar role would be welcomed. More importantly, we are looking for someone with the right attitude who genuinely enjoys helping a household run well.
