The Opportunity

We’re partnering with an established Hunter-based industrial business to recruit an experienced financial accounting professional to lead its day-to-day finance function.

- Report directly to the Managing Director & Company Secretary supporting the direction of the business
- Take ownership of the finance function with a hands-on approach to reporting and month-end processes
- Improve systems, controls and financial insights within an operational environment

Reporting directly to the Managing Director & Company Secretary, you’ll oversee the accounts and purchasing support functions, maintain solid financial controls and ensure reporting, compliance and transactional activities are delivered accurately and on time.

What You’ll Be Doing

Your responsibilities will include

- Managing month-end and year-end close processes, including journals, accruals and balance sheet reconciliations
- Preparing monthly financial and management reports, including profit and loss, balance sheet, trial balance and Directors’ reporting
- Supporting budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and analysis of financial performance
- Overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, cashbook and banking activities
- Managing payroll processes, employee leave accruals and related statutory obligations
- Preparing and lodging BAS, PAYG, payroll tax, superannuation and other statutory returns
- Maintaining the fixed asset register, including acquisitions, disposals and depreciation
- Coordinating external audit requirements and supporting the preparation of annual financial statements
- Leading,



supporting and developing the transactional finance team
- Reviewing existing finance processes and implementing practical improvements to systems, controls and reporting
- Contributing to broader governance, risk, compliance and continuous improvement initiatives

What You’ll Bring

You’ll be a technically capable and commercially minded accountant who is comfortable taking ownership of the finance function within a practical, operational business.

You will ideally bring

- A Bachelor of Commerce, Accounting or equivalent qualification
- Your CA or CPA (or close to attaining)
- 3 years’ experience in a Company Accountant, Financial Accountant or similar position
- Strong month-end, financial reporting and balance sheet reconciliation capability
- Working knowledge of Australian accounting, taxation and statutory reporting requirements
- Experience overseeing transactional finance activities, including AP, AR and payroll
- Demonstrated leadership experience and a collaborative, hands-on working style
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and organisational skills
- Confidence communicating financial information to senior leaders and operational stakeholders




- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience working across accounting or ERP systems

Experience within engineering, manufacturing, construction or another project-based operational environment would be highly regarded.
