HVAC / Chiller Maintenance Technician – Commercial & Industrial

ATS Group is looking for an experienced HVAC / Chiller Maintenance Technician to join our growing service team. This role is focused on commercial and industrial HVAC maintenance, servicing, breakdowns, fault finding and repairs. We are looking for someone who is technically capable, takes pride in diagnosing problems properly and understands the importance of clear reporting, communication and attention to detail.

You will work across a range of commercial and industrial sites, maintaining and repairing HVAC and chiller plant and helping our clients keep their systems operating reliably and efficiently.

This would suit an experienced technician who enjoys service and maintenance work, is confident working independently and wants to be part of a team that values quality workmanship and doing things properly.

About the role

As an HVAC / Chiller Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for preventative maintenance, breakdown response, fault finding and repairs across a range of commercial and industrial HVAC systems. A major part of the role is not only completing the technical work, but also accurately identifying issues, documenting equipment condition and clearly communicating recommendations to clients and our internal team.

You will work closely with our service coordinators, project managers and technicians to ensure maintenance is completed thoroughly and potential problems are identified before they become major failures.

What you will be doing

- Carry out scheduled preventative maintenance on commercial and industrial HVAC and chiller systems
- Respond to breakdowns and reactive service calls
- Fault-find and diagnose electrical, refrigeration, mechanical and control-related issues
- Carry out repairs and corrective maintenance on HVAC and associated plant
- Service and maintain chillers, pumps, AHUs, FCUs, condensers, ventilation equipment and associated systems
- Inspect plant condition and identify faults, deterioration and future maintenance requirements
- Accurately complete preventative maintenance checklists and service reports
- Provide clear descriptions of faults found, repairs completed and further works recommended




- Take detailed photos and record equipment information where required
- Communicate professionally with clients, site contacts and the ATS team
- Assist with commissioning, testing and optimisation of HVAC and control systems where required
- Maintain accurate service records and compliance documentation
- Participate in the after-hours on-call roster
- Be flexible to complete overtime or after-hours works when required
- Maintain high standards of safety, workmanship and presentation

Reporting and communication

Good reporting is an important part of this position. We are looking for someone who can complete clear and accurate service reports that allow both our clients and internal team to understand:
- What was inspected
- What faults or issues were identified
- What work was completed
- The condition of the equipment
- What additional repairs or maintenance are recommended
- Any risks or issues that require further attention

You do not need to write lengthy reports, but you must be able to communicate technical information clearly, accurately and professionally.

About you

You will be a good fit for this role if you:
- Have strong commercial or industrial HVAC service and maintenance experience
- Are confident fault finding and diagnosing equipment issues
- Have experience carrying out repairs rather than simply identifying faults
- Take a thorough approach to preventative maintenance
- Have solid attention to detail
- Can identify potential equipment failures and maintenance issues
- Complete clear, accurate and useful service reports
- Have good written and verbal communication skills
- Are comfortable communicating directly with clients and site contacts
- Can work independently and manage your time effectively
- Take pride in your workmanship and the condition you leave a site in
- Work well as part of a team and communicate when support is required

Qualifications & experience





- Minimum five years' experience in commercial or industrial HVAC / refrigeration
- Chiller experience highly regarded
- Commercial HVAC maintenance and breakdown experience essential
- Supermarket refrigeration experience advantageous
- Controls or commissioning experience advantageous
- Current Australian driver's licence
- Construction White Card
- Current QBCC occupational licence
- Current Restricted Electrical Licence
- Current Refrigerant Handling Licence

Experience with a broad range of plant and equipment is highly regarded, however we are equally interested in technicians with a strong maintenance and fault-finding background who are willing to continue developing their chiller and controls knowledge.
