Primary objective

As a member of the Milingimbi School leadership team, be responsible for leading, modelling and supporting inclusive education practices that promote equitable access, meaningful participation, and positive learning outcomes for all students. Provide instructional leadership in developing inclusive classroom environments, promoting high levels of student engagement, and building teacher capability to cater for diverse learners through collaborative planning, coaching, and reflective practice.

Context statement

Milingimbi School is situated in the East Arnhem region. The school provides education to early years, middle years and senior secondary students for some 320 enrolled students, 95% of whom are First Nations. It operates across the spectrum of the Australian curriculum,

delivering early years, middle and senior years education.



The assistant principal works alongside the principal and has primary oversight of a number of key administrative areas such as whole school skilled learning, daily operations, NTCET completion, reporting and

Vocational Education and Training.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Lead and coordinate whole-school inclusion and wellbeing initiatives that promote student engagement, attendance, participation,

achievement, and positive behavioural outcomes. Promote a positive school culture that supports high expectations, student voice, belonging, resilience, wellbeing and successful participation in learning.
1. Provide expert leadership, advice, coaching and mentoring to teachers and support staff to strengthen inclusive teaching practices,

differentiated learning, trauma-informed approaches, and student wellbeing support.
1. Coordinate the identification, assessment, intervention and monitoring of students requiring additional educational, behavioural, social,

emotional, cultural, disability, or wellbeing support.
1. Lead complex case management processes and work collaboratively with students, families, school staff, community organisations,

and government agencies to develop and implement effective support plans.
1. Analyse student wellbeing, attendance, behaviour and engagement data to inform targeted interventions, strategic planning, and

continuous school improvement.
1. Support the implementation of evidence-based frameworks, departmental initiatives, and legislative requirements relating to inclusion,

disability, child safety, student wellbeing, attendance, and positive behaviour.
1. Build staff capability through professional learning, coaching and collaborative practices that foster inclusive, culturally responsive, and

safe learning environments for all students.

Develop and maintain productive relationships with families, community members, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders,

and external service providers to improve student outcomes and wellbeing.
1. Work collaboratively with the Principal, Assistant Principals, Senior Teachers and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement

school priorities relating to inclusion, wellbeing, engagement and educational success.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated capacity to lead inclusive education and student wellbeing practices that improve engagement, attendance,

participation, behaviour, and educational outcomes for students with diverse needs.
1. Proven ability to build the capability of staff through coaching, mentoring, professional learning, and collaborative leadership in

inclusive education, disability support, student wellbeing, and positive behaviour practices.
1. Demonstrated experience in coordinating complex student case management and working collaboratively with families,

multidisciplinary teams, community organisations, and external service providers to achieve positive student outcomes.
1. Demonstrated ability to use student wellbeing, attendance, behaviour and achievement data to identify needs, inform interventions,

monitor outcomes, and support continuous improvement.
1. Demonstrated knowledge and application of relevant legislation, policies and frameworks, including child protection, disability

standards, inclusion, student wellbeing, and culturally responsive educational practices.
1. Demonstrated ability to build a shared culture of high expectations, while developing and maintaining effective interpersonal and
