About the role The successful applicant will prepare and apply industrial coatings to trailers, machinery, equipment, fabricated steel components and other manufactured items. The primary duties of this position are abrasive blasting, surface preparation and industrial spray painting.

Key responsibilities

- Abrasive blast steel structures, trailers, machinery, equipment and fabricated components.
- Inspect surfaces and determine the required preparation and coating process.
- Grind, sand, clean, wash and prepare surfaces for painting.
- Remove rust, scale, grease, old paint and other surface contaminants.
- Mask and protect areas that are not to be painted.
- Mix paints, primers, lacquers, protective coatings and rustproofing products according to specifications.
- Load paints and coatings into industrial spray-painting equipment.
- Connect hoses and adjust spray guns, nozzles and air pressure.
- Apply primers, topcoats and protective industrial coatings evenly and to the required thickness.
- Operate spray booths, extraction systems, drying fans and associated equipment.

About you

- Relevant industrial spray-painting and abrasive-blasting experience.




- A relevant qualification equivalent to an AQF Certificate II and at least 3 years relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience operating industrial spray-painting equipment.
- Demonstrated abrasive-blasting and surface-preparation experience.
- Knowledge of primers, topcoats, protective coatings and rustproofing products.
- The ability to mix and apply coatings according to manufacturer and job specifications.
- Experience using grinders, sanders and other surface-preparation equipment.
- An understanding of coating thickness, finish quality and defect identification.
- A strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
- A current driver's licence.
