Damascus Health Services at Brisbane Private Hospital is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Clinical Nurse - Mental Health Intake Clinician to join our dedicated team. This is a rewarding opportunity for a clinician who enjoys autonomous practice, complex clinical decision-making, and contributing to positive patient outcomes.

Damascus Health Services provides evidence-based treatment for individuals experiencing alcohol and prescription or over the counter medication within a supportive multidisciplinary environment. The service comprises of 44-bed inpatient beds and a dedicated Day Program service.

Key Responsibilities

As the Intake Clinician, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring safe and appropriate access to care through comprehensive assessment and clinical triage processes. Responsibilities include:

- Conducting comprehensive biopsychosocial and risk assessments of individuals seeking admission, many of whom may present in acute distress or crisis.
- Applying advanced clinical judgement and critical thinking to assess suitability for admission and identify potential risks.
- Collaborating with psychiatrists, Nurse Unit Managers, referrers, patients, and carers to facilitate timely and clinically appropriate admissions.
- Providing expert clinical advice, consultation,



and care pathway recommendations to referrers, patients, and families.
- Assessing complex presentations and determining alternative treatment options or referral pathways when admission criteria are not met.
- Maintaining accurate clinical documentation and ensuring compliance with organisational and regulatory requirements.
- Contributing to quality improvement initiatives, risk management activities, and Work Health and Safety programs.

Essential Selection Criteria

- Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse.
- Extensive experience in mental health, alcohol and other drugs (AOD), and comprehensive risk assessment.
- Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking and evidence-based clinical decision-making in complex and rapidly changing situations.
- Previous experience in intake, triage, emergency assessment, or care coordination roles.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work autonomously while effectively collaborating within a multidisciplinary team.
- High level of computer literacy and proficiency in electronic health record systems.
- Robust commitment to patient-centred care, clinical excellence, and continuous quality improvement.
