This is a 0.9432 FTE (Full Time Equivalent) position commencing January 2027. The Laboratory Technician provides support to the Head of Learning Area - Science and teaching staff to ensure curriculum requirements are met in the science laboratory.
Key responsibilities
- Provide support and advice to the Head of Learning Area and teaching staff to ensure that curriculum requirements are met
- Provide advice on suitable experiments, and/or demonstrations to support teaching and curriculum outcomes for science classes
- Organise and prepare chemicals, equipment and materials for study purposes in compliance with chemical, physical and biological laboratory practices and legislative requirements, including cleaning up when completed
- Manage laboratory stocks, including ordering of supplies and equipment and liaison with suppliers
- Instruct and demonstrate use of equipment where necessary
- Construct equipment where feasible
- Clean and carry out routine maintenance of equipment and materials where possible
- Procure/collect/store/preserve and dispose of fresh specimens
- Ensure Science staff have advice and support on the protected use, storage, handling and disposal of chemicals, science equipment and biological materials
- Maintain and update SDS and the Hazardous Chemicals Register
About you
- Be supportive of the Catholic and Norbertine ethos of the College
- Hold a current Department of Education and Training Police Clearance and a Working with Children Clearance
- Undertake Mandatory Reporting training (CPPMR) and maintain annually
- Must hold current drivers licence
- Certificate III or IV in Laboratory Skills or equivalent qualification or experience will be considered advantageous
- Experience working within a science laboratory preferably in a secondary school, including knowledge of laboratory techniques and relevant safety and legislative requirements
- Personal commitment to tasks undertaken
- Enthusiasm, energy and willingness to grow
- High standard of organisational and time management skills
- Reliable and able to work under pressure
