As we continue to grow, we are seeking an experienced Lethality Systems Lead to lead the development, integration, verification and certification of lethality and weapon systems across our major defence programs.

This is a rare opportunity to become HDA's engineering authority for lethality systems, leading a team of specialists responsible for delivering complex weapon system capabilities from concept through to certification and operational deployment.

About the Role:

Reporting within the Engineering function, the Lethality Systems Lead is responsible for leading, coordinating and assuring all systems engineering activities associated with lethality systems across HDA platforms.

You will act as the primary engineering interface with Defence customers, subcontractors and key stakeholders, providing technical leadership across weapon systems, explosive ordnance, fire control systems, ammunition integration, targeting systems and related lethality capabilities.

Leading a multidisciplinary team, you will ensure lethality solutions are delivered safely, effectively and in compliance with contractual, regulatory and operational requirements.

This role can be base at either our CBD or H/ACE Facility in Avalon with hybrid working options.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead the development, integration, verification and certification of lethality and weapon systems across HDA programs.
- Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise across weapon systems, explosive ordnance, ammunition integration, fire control systems and lethality capabilities.
- Lead and coordinate systems engineering activities including requirements management, system integration, verification and validation (V&V;).
- Manage and mentor a team of technical specialists, fostering engineering excellence and continuous improvement.




- Coordinate test and evaluation activities, including planning, execution, analysis and reporting.
- Support system safety activities including hazard analysis, risk management, safety assurance and suitability-for-service assessments.
- Evaluate systems against contractual, legislative, regulatory and certification requirements.
- Act as the primary engineering interface with Defence customers, subcontractors, suppliers and key stakeholders.
- Lead technical reviews, manage engineering risks and issues, and provide engineering progress reporting.
- Ensure technical documentation, engineering artefacts and safety cases are delivered in accordance with program requirements and quality standards.

About You:

You are a highly experienced systems engineering skilled with deep expertise in weapon systems and lethality integration within complex defence environments.

To be successful, you will bring:

Essential:

- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering.
- Eligibility for, or achievement of, Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status through Engineers Australia.
- Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams and delivering complex technical outcomes.
- Strong systems engineering expertise across the capability lifecycle, including requirements management, system integration, verification and validation.
- Experience planning and coordinating test and evaluation activities, including data analysis and trial reporting.
- Understanding of small, medium and large-calibre weapon systems and their performance characteristics.
- Knowledge of explosive ordnance principles and weapon safety requirements.
- Understanding of engineering governance, technical compliance and engineering lifecycle management.

- Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
- Ability to work effectively within highly regulated and security-conscious environments.

Highly Desirable:

- Knowledge of NATO weapon design and test standards.
- Experience working within Australian Defence Force capability acquisition or sustainment programs.
- Understanding of ADF weapons employment and operational concepts.
- Experience with guided weapons, targeting systems, unmanned systems and complex platform integration.
