About the Role
n
Cafe 63 Underwood is seeking a qualified and experienced Cook to join our kitchen team on a full-time basis. This is a senior Cook position within the kitchen team, with other cooks and kitchen support staff working under the position holder's day-to-day direction and coordination.
n
Key Duties and Responsibilities
n
n
- Prepare and cook a variety of dishes in accordance with established recipes, menus, portion requirements and quality standards.
n
- Coordinate and oversee the day-to-day food preparation and cooking activities of other cooks and kitchen team members.
n
- Allocate routine preparation and cooking tasks to other kitchen staff and provide practical guidance where required.
n
- Monitor the work of kitchen team members to ensure food is prepared correctly, efficiently and within required service times.
n
- Prepare ingredients by washing, cutting, measuring, portioning, seasoning and undertaking other required food preparation. baking and roasting.
n
- Monitor the quality of ingredients and finished dishes to maintain consistent taste, portion size and presentation.
n
- Check food throughout preparation and cooking to ensure correct temperatures, cooking times and quality standards are maintained.
n
- Coordinate cooking activities during busy service periods to ensure customer orders are completed accurately and on time.
n
- Provide guidance to other cooks and kitchen staff regarding preparation methods, portioning, presentation, food handling and kitchen procedures.
n
- Assist with the induction and practical training of new kitchen team members where required.
n
- Monitor stock levels and coordinate the appropriate use and storage of ingredients.
n
- Receive and inspect food deliveries and ensure ingredients are stored correctly.
n
- Maintain appropriate stock rotation, food storage and temperature-control procedures.
n
- Assist with accommodating dietary requirements and special customer requests.
n
- Ensure cooking stations, utensils, equipment and kitchen work areas are maintained in a clean and organised condition.
n
- Ensure kitchen team members follow appropriate food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety procedures.
n
- Minimise food wastage through appropriate preparation, portion control, stock rotation and storage practices.
n
- Work collaboratively with management to support the efficient day-to-day operation of the kitchen.
n

Applicants must have:
n
n
- A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience working as a Cook in a commercial
n
- Strong practical food preparation and commercial cooking skills.
n
- Ability to coordinate and provide day-to-day direction to other cooks and kitchen team members.
n
- Sound knowledge of food safety, hygiene and safe food-handling requirements.
n
- Ability to maintain consistent food quality, portioning and presentation.
n
- Good organisational, communication and time-management skills.
n
- Ability to work efficiently and coordinate kitchen activities during busy service periods.
n
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team while providing guidance to other kitchen staff.
n
- Availability to work a versatile roster, including weekends and public holidays where required.
