Role Description This full-time, on-site Locomotive Driver role is based in Darwin, NT.

The Locomotive

Driver is responsible for safely operating freight trains, following timetables, signals, and operating procedures to ensure efficient and reliable services. Daily activities include conducting pre-departure inspections, monitoring train performance, and responding to operational conditions and instructions from control centers. The role involves adhering to safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements, completing operational documentation, and reporting incidents or maintenance issues.

Locomotive

Drivers collaborate closely with yard, maintenance,



and operations teams to support smooth freight movements and high service standards.

Qualifications

- Relevant locomotive driving experience or rail operations background, with demonstrated understanding of train handling and operating procedures.
- Robust focus on safety, including knowledge of rail safety standards, fatigue management, and incident reporting practices.
- Ability to read and follow timetables, signals, and written instructions, with solid attention to detail and situational awareness.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills to work with control centers, operations staff, and maintenance teams.
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions under time pressure and changing conditions.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and public holidays as required in a 24/7 freight rail environment.
- Physical capability to perform safety checks, climb equipment, and work in outdoor environments across varying weather conditions.
- Current or eligibility for rail safety worker accreditation, with the ability to meet medical, drug and alcohol, and background check requirements.
- Basic computer and device literacy for using onboard systems and completing electronic reports and logs.
