About the role

Kestrel Eight is seeking an experienced M365 and Exchange Online Platform Engineer for an urgent Melbourne-based engagement. This is a hands-on cloud platform specialist role owning the architecture, engineering, operation and automation of a large-scale enterprise Microsoft 365 tenant and Exchange Online messaging infrastructure. Hybrid working arrangement, with contract or permanent options available for the right candidate.

What you will own

- M365 tenant administration. Global Microsoft 365 tenant settings, directory synchronisation and core service configuration.
- Exchange Online engineering. Architecting, configuring and maintaining enterprise-grade Exchange Online messaging infrastructure, including hybrid mail routing.
- Tenant lifecycle and licensing. Overseeing tenant lifecycle activities, optimising licence allocation and controlling operational costs.
- Capability rollout and adoption. Deploying new Microsoft cloud features, evaluating service updates and enhancing platform capability.
- Automation and performance. Building PowerShell and Microsoft Graph API automation to streamline administration and lift platform performance.

What you bring

- 5 to 7 years' hands-on engineering experience administering large-scale enterprise Microsoft 365 tenants and Exchange Online.
- Advanced PowerShell and Microsoft Graph API scripting for automation and tenant management.




- Deep technical mastery of M365 tenant architecture, Exchange Online messaging pipelines, hybrid mail routing and object synchronisation.
- Expert-level proficiency across the M365 Admin Centre, Exchange Admin Centre, PowerShell, Graph API and Entra Connect / Cloud Sync.
- Proven ability to design redundant mail routes, establish disaster recovery procedures and mitigate platform service disruptions.
- Experience governing tenant-wide configuration, service quotas and licence pooling.
- A track record delivering stable SaaS infrastructure against SLAs and resolving complex technical escalations.
- Comfort analysing M365 usage telemetry to drive cost optimisation and resource allocation decisions.
- Strong stakeholder management, aligning feature rollouts with business productivity needs and IT service desk workflows.
- Working understanding of tenant security settings, message tracing and audit log analysis in support of security incident investigations.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert or Messaging Administrator Associate highly desirable.
