Our Melbourne engineering team is growing, and we’re looking for a Manufacturing Design Engineer who enjoys solving practical engineering challenges and improving the way products are manufactured.

About the Role

This is a hands-on engineering role where you’ll work closely with our Engineering, Design and Manufacturing teams to improve fabrication processes and introduce smarter, more efficient manufacturing solutions.

You’ll have a particular focus on Design for Manufacture (DFM), robotic welding, jigs and fixtures, helping us improve efficiency, quality and repeatability across our manufacturing operations.

From analysing an existing process and identifying an opportunity for improvement, through to designing a fixture and seeing it implemented on the factory floor — you’ll have the opportunity to make a real impact.

Key Responsibilities:

- Analyse fabrication processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality and productivity
- Develop and implement Design for Manufacture (DFM) improvements, particularly for robotic welding applications
- Design and develop welding jigs, fixtures and tooling, including automated and pneumatic clamping systems
- Design sheet metal and machined steel components for manufacturing applications
- Develop work instructions, SOPs and process documentation
- Conduct process mapping, time studies and root cause analysis
- Support the commissioning, troubleshooting and optimisation of robotic welding systems




- Work closely with Engineering, Design and Manufacturing teams to develop practical production solutions
- Identify opportunities to reduce costs, waste and manufacturing time
- Investigate manufacturing issues and support Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs)

About You

- A degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Mechatronic Engineering or a similar discipline
- Engineering experience within a manufacturing or fabrication environment
- Strong design capability across sheet metal and machined steel components
- Experience designing welding jigs, fixtures or tooling
- A valuable understanding of welding processes, particularly MIG welding, weld sequencing and distortion control
- Experience with process improvement, time studies or root cause analysis
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- The ability to work collaboratively across Engineering, Manufacturing and Production
- Experience with robotic welding, automation or pneumatic systems will be highly regarded.
