The Mersey Leven Strategic Alliance, representing Central Coast, Devonport, Latrobe and Kentish Councils, invites expressions of interest from suitably qualified people to serve as Independent Chairpersons and Members of the Councils' Audit Panels.

Central Coast Council: Independent Chairperson (1) and one (1) or two (2) Independent Members Devonport City Council: Independent Chairperson (1) and one (1) Independent Member

Latrobe and Kentish Councils: Independent (1) Member

The chance

Audit Panels provide independent, objective advice and assurance to Councils across financial management and reporting, governance, risk, internal controls, legislative compliance, strategic planning and organisational performance. Independent Chairpersons provide additional leadership by guiding the Panel's work program, chairing meetings, supporting constructive challenge and ensuring clear and timely advice is provided to Council.

About you

We are seeking people with senior-level experience in one or more of the following areas:

- financial management, accounting, internal or external audit
- governance, risk management, internal control or compliance
- strategic, financial and asset management planning
- project delivery, procurement or organisational performance
- information technology, cyber security or information governance




- local government or broader public-sector governance

Applicants must demonstrate independence, sound judgement, high ethical standards and the ability to analyse complex information and communicate practical, evidence-based advice. Chairperson applicants should also have significant governance leadership and meeting chairing experience, with the ability to build effective relationships while maintaining appropriate independence.

Appointment arrangements

Appointments will be made separately by each Council for a specified term. The same person may be appointed to more than one Council's Audit Panel. Panels generally meet at least four times each financial year, with additional preparation and occasional meetings required. Remuneration and approved expenses will be determined by each Council.
