Delivery Lead | Software Engineering

A high-profile Queensland organisation is seeking an experienced Delivery Lead to join a major software engineering and modernisation program. This is an opportunity for a hands-on leader who can combine project delivery, team leadership and technical oversight. You'll hire and lead a growing engineering team delivering API modernisation, automation and AI-enabled development initiatives within a fast-paced environment.

About the Role

This role is a mix of Project Manager, Technical Delivery Manager and Agile Lead. You'll build and lead a multidisciplinary engineering team while overseeing delivery planning, governance, budgets, stakeholder engagement and project outcomes. A key focus of the role is establishing and scaling an automated patching capability across a large microservices environment, while supporting the adoption of AI-enabled engineering practices. This will involve finding the balance between tradition PM/Agile delivery frameworks but heavily adapted to modern AI solution delivery practices. The broader program includes API upgrades, integration initiatives, platform modernisation and software engineering transformation.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and manage a team of engineers and technical specialists
- Oversee delivery of API modernisation and automation initiatives
- Manage project planning, budgets, milestones, reporting and governance
- Lead discovery and pilot activities before scaling solutions across the wider environment




- Establish and operationalise an automated patching factory across a large microservices estate
- Deliver Spring Boot upgrade and application modernisation programs
- Manage stakeholders across business, operational and technical teams
- Oversee risks, dependencies and delivery outcomes
- Support team growth, recruitment and onboarding activities
- Drive adoption of AI-enabled software development practices
- Other duties as required

Essential Criteria

- Proven experience as a Delivery Lead, Delivery Manager or Technical Project Manager
- Strong background delivering software engineering, digital product or application development initiatives
- Experience with APIs, integration platforms or microservices-based environments
- Demonstrated ability to lead Agile delivery teams while maintaining strong delivery governance
- Experience managing budgets, schedules, reporting and stakeholder engagement
- Robust understanding of software development lifecycles and engineering practices
- Ability to influence engineers, Technical Leads and delivery teams
- Experience leading and developing high-performing technical teams
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Outcome-focused approach with a track record of successful delivery

Desirable Experience

- Java and Spring Boot environments
- Application modernisation, DevOps or automated testing programs
- API migration or upgrade initiatives
- AI-assisted software development or AI-enabled SDLC practices
- Integration or platform transformation programs
