About Havenport MSL College

Havenport MSL College is a co-educational school catering for students from Year 3 to Year 12 who are experiencing significant educational gaps, generally working two or more years below expected levels in literacy and numeracy. Our teaching groups are intentionally small, generally operating at a 1:4 to 1:8 staff-to-student ratio. This allows our teachers to genuinely know their students and provide individualised teaching, support and connection.

Our foundation is built on informality and flexibility, where the mental health and wellbeing of students and staff are prioritised alongside high expectations for academic growth.

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and adaptable Multi-Sensory Teacher who is confident teaching across different learning areas, ages and abilities, and understands that teaching at Havenport may look a little different from a traditional classroom. You will work with small teaching groups of approximately 4–8 students, providing opportunities to work closely with each student, identify their strengths and areas for development, and provide achievable steps that allow them to experience success while continuing to progress academically.

Rather than being confined to one traditional subject area, this role provides the opportunity to deliver engaging, explicit and hands-on learning across multiple disciplines.

Teaching follows the Havenport scope and sequence, with an emphasis on explicit, structured, sequential and evidence-informed instruction, particularly in literacy and numeracy.



Our approach incorporates multi-sensory teaching strategies and recognises that students may require different pathways, pacing and supports to access learning successfully.

Our students learn differently, and we expect our staff to be willing to teach differently.

- Deliver explicit, structured and evidence-informed literacy and numeracy instruction, following the Havenport scope and sequence.
- Use multi-sensory approaches and adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs.
- Are willing and able to teach across multiple disciplines, ages and ability levels.
- Deliver engaging, practical and hands-on learning experiences.
- Meet students at their current level of ability, providing achievable steps that build confidence and success while maintaining appropriate academic challenges.
- Understand that behaviour is communication and respond within a trauma-informed framework.
- Adapt their teaching to how students learn rather than expecting students to fit a traditional teaching model.
- Work actively and collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary College team.
- Embrace technology and confidently work within a paperless learning environment.
- Recognise that every day can look different and have the flexibility to adjust when needed.
- Approach their practice with humility, curiosity and a willingness to reflect, learn and adapt alongside our students and colleagues.
- Are passionate about supporting students with specific learning disorders, ADHD, autism and developmental language differences to achieve meaningful academic, vocational and tertiary goals.

About You

We are looking for a teacher who enjoys variety and is willing to work outside the traditional boundaries of a single subject area. You can build genuine relationships with young people while maintaining high expectations for their learning. You are comfortable working outside a traditional classroom model and understand that successful teaching is not simply about getting through a lesson plan—it is about finding the way each student can access, understand and engage with the learning.

You bring creativity, flexibility, humour and patience. You are reflective in your practice and willing to change direction when something isn't working.

You are comfortable asking questions, learning from colleagues and sharing your own knowledge and expertise as part of a collaborative team.





Most importantly, you believe that students who learn differently are capable learners who deserve opportunities to achieve ambitious educational goals.

Selection Criteria

Applicants should demonstrate:

- Appropriate teaching qualifications and current teacher registration, or eligibility for registration.
- Ability and willingness to teach across multiple learning areas.
- Ability to deliver engaging, hands-on classes across multiple ages and ability levels.
- Demonstrated ability to differentiate learning and support students working below expected literacy and numeracy levels.
- An understanding of explicit, structured and evidence-informed teaching practices, particularly in literacy and numeracy.
- Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective, positive and collaborative working relationships with students, colleagues and families.
- Excellent technology skills, or a strong willingness and capacity to learn and embrace new technologies.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary setting.
- An understanding of, or willingness to develop knowledge in, multi-sensory instruction, trauma-informed practice, specific learning disorders and neurodiversity-affirming education.
- A current Working with Children Check (WWCC), or the ability to obtain one.

Experience working with students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADHD, autism, developmental language disorder and other neurodivergent learning profiles will be highly regarded.
