Onyx Worx is expanding its insurance-repair team across Brisbane, and we’re looking for an experienced carpenter who knows their way around more than just timber.

This is a hands-on Leading Hand position for someone who can confidently complete repairs, coordinate a Trade Assistant and take responsibility for getting each job completed properly.

You’ll work across multiple residential insurance-repair sites throughout Brisbane, completing a broad range of maintenance, restoration and rectification works.

The Work

Our jobs commonly include:

- General carpentry and maintenance
- Architraves, skirting boards and finishing work
- Weatherboard replacement and repairs
- Timber fencing repairs and replacement
- Plasterboard re-sheeting, patching, setting and sanding
- Brickwork repairs
- Render repairs and touch-ups
- Interior and exterior painting
- Insurance make-good and rectification works
- Identifying additional damage or required variations
- Taking explicit before, during and after photos
- And more

You don’t need to hold every trade qualification, but you must have genuine hands-on experience across several of these areas and know what quality workmanship looks like.

About the Role

You will:

- Work on the tools alongside a Trade Assistant
- Lead the team and allocate daily tasks
- Communicate directly with management throughout the day
- Attend multiple residential sites when required
- Review scopes of work before starting
- Check measurements, materials and job requirements
- Maintain quality control across every job
- Keep sites clean, organised and safe
- Identify issues early and report them immediately
- Communicate professionally with clients, supervisors and other trades
- Complete jobs efficiently without cutting corners

What We’re Looking For

You will be a qualified or highly experienced carpenter with solid knowledge of multiple construction trades.

You must be:

- Experienced in residential construction, maintenance or insurance repairs




- Confident using power tools and completing detailed repair work
- Capable of supervising and working alongside a Trade Assistant
- A strong communicator who answers their phone and provides regular updates
- Reliable, punctual and well organised
- Professional in your presentation and communication
- Able to read and follow scopes of work
- Comfortable working independently and solving problems onsite
- Efficient while maintaining a high standard of workmanship
- Respectful when working inside clients’ homes
- Someone who takes genuine pride in their work

This is not a role for someone who needs to be chased, constantly supervised or reminded to communicate. We need someone dependable who can take ownership and get the job done properly.

- Own reliable vehicle
- Own tools and construction PPE
- Active ABN
- Current driver’s licence
- Construction White Card
- Public liability insurance
- Relevant personal accident or workers’ compensation coverage
- Proof of previous experience and completed work
- Recent references
- Ability to pass any required background checks
- Full working rights in Australia
