Role Description This full-time, in office Registered Midwife role is based in Newcastle, NSW and focuses on providing safe, evidence-based care to people during pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period. Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting assessments, planning and delivering midwifery care, supporting birthing persons and families, and monitoring maternal and neonatal wellbeing. The role involves collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, contributing to care plans, and ensuring continuity of care across inpatient and community settings.

The Registered

Midwife will promote culturally safe, person-centered care,



support breastfeeding and early parenting, and provide education and advocacy to patients and their support networks. The position also requires accurate documentation, adherence to clinical guidelines, participation in quality improvement activities, and engagement in ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

- Current registration (or eligibility for registration) as a Registered Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and compliance with professional standards and codes of practice.
- Demonstrated clinical midwifery skills in antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care, including assessment, care planning, and monitoring maternal and neonatal health.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with patients, families and colleagues, including the ability to provide clear education and support in emotionally sensitive situations.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams, contribute to collaborative decision-making, and support integrated care pathways across hospital and community services.
- Commitment to culturally safe practice and respectful care for diverse communities, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and other priority populations.
- Sound clinical judgment, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to respond appropriately in emergency and high-acuity situations.
- Proficiency in accurate documentation, use of electronic health records and adherence to relevant policies, procedures and legislative requirements.
