Personal Trainer / Physical Wellbeing Coach The Haven Retreats | Gold Coast, QLD

Luxury Private Drug & Alcohol Recovery Retreat

About The Haven Retreats The Haven Retreats is a brand-current luxury private drug and alcohol recovery retreat on the Gold Coast, created to provide a highly personalised, compassionate and comprehensive approach to recovery.

Operating with a deliberately small number of residential clients, The Haven combines professional therapeutic support with physical wellbeing, nutrition, healthy routines and carefully selected complementary therapies within a private luxury environment.

We believe recovery is about more than simply stopping substance use.

Our goal is to help individuals rebuild their lives while developing the practical tools, confidence, resilience and healthy routines needed to navigate everyday life and support long-term wellbeing.

Physical health is an important part of that process.

We want clients to rediscover what their bodies are capable of, establish sustainable exercise habits and experience the positive impact that movement, routine and achievable goals can have on their overall wellbeing.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an exceptional Personal Trainer / Physical Wellbeing Coach to become part of The Haven's multidisciplinary wellbeing team.

This is not a traditional commercial gym PT position.

You will work with a small number of residential clients, allowing you to provide genuinely individualised attention and adapt training to each person's fitness level, physical condition, confidence and recovery journey.

The role will involve a combination of small-group training, individual programming, one-on-one sessions, mobility, functional fitness and outdoor activities.

We want someone capable of making exercise something clients genuinely look forward to.

Your Role

Working alongside our counselling, recovery and wellbeing team, you will help clients safely rebuild physical health and establish sustainable exercise habits.

Responsibilities may include

- Conducting initial fitness and movement assessments within your professional scope.
- Developing individualised exercise programs based on each client's ability, goals and physical limitations.
- Delivering daily or scheduled small-group training sessions.
- Providing one-on-one personal training where appropriate.
- Facilitating strength, conditioning, cardiovascular and functional fitness sessions.
- Incorporating mobility, stretching and recovery work.
- Helping clients establish realistic and sustainable fitness goals.
- Encouraging consistency, discipline and healthy routine without creating an overly competitive environment.
- Educating clients on safe exercise techniques and injury prevention.
- Monitoring progress and adjusting programs accordingly.
- Supporting clients who may have limited previous experience with exercise.
- Helping clients rebuild confidence in their physical abilities.
- Collaborating with other Haven practitioners when developing individual wellbeing plans.

- Recognising when a client should not participate in particular physical activities and escalating medical or wellbeing concerns appropriately.
- Maintaining accurate records where required.
- Maintaining strict confidentiality and professional boundaries.

Depending on experience and qualifications, there may also be opportunities to facilitate boxing fitness, swimming, hiking, beach training, mobility sessions, recovery sessions, ice-bath preparation or other physical wellbeing activities.

Who We're Looking For

We are looking for a trainer who understands that success in this environment isn't measured by who can lift the most weight or complete the hardest workout.

For some clients, success may initially mean simply getting out of bed, completing a morning session and beginning to feel physically capable again.

The ideal candidate will be motivating without being intimidating, disciplined without being rigid, and encouraging without judgement.

You will ideally hold

- Certificate IV in Fitness or an equivalent recognised qualification.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Appropriate professional registration where applicable.
- Strong knowledge of exercise programming, movement and safe training practices.
- Excellent interpersonal and motivational skills.
- An ability to modify training for different fitness levels and physical limitations.
- Strong professional boundaries and discretion.

For contractor applicants, appropriate professional indemnity and public liability insurance, or willingness to obtain this prior to commencing, will be required. Experience working within alcohol and other drugs, mental health, rehabilitation, trauma-informed services, health retreats or residential wellbeing environments would be highly regarded but is not essential for the right person.

More Than a Workout

We want physical training at The Haven to have a purpose beyond appearance.

Our clients may arrive having neglected their physical health, lost confidence, experienced disrupted sleep and routines, or spent significant periods disconnected from exercise and healthy lifestyle habits.

Your role is to help them begin rebuilding.

Training should provide clients with achievable goals and demonstrate that progress comes through consistency, discipline and small improvements over time.

We want clients leaving The Haven with exercise habits they can realistically continue at home — not simply memories of completing difficult workouts during their stay.

The Person Matters The right personality is extremely important to us.

We are looking for someone who is positive, grounded, reliable, emotionally intelligent and genuinely good with people.

You need to know when to challenge someone and when to modify your approach.

Our clients will come from different backgrounds, ages and fitness levels. Some may have trained extensively before entering treatment; others may have done very little structured exercise.

There is no one-size-fits-all program.

We want a trainer who can connect with both.

What We Stand For The Haven is being built around a simple principle:

Treatment should address the person, not just the substance.

Our approach brings together professional counselling, recovery support, nutrition, physical wellbeing, healthy routines and carefully selected complementary practices.

We want clients to feel respected rather than judged, supported rather than institutionalised, and actively involved in rebuilding their lives.

Physical training forms part of that broader approach.

What We Want to Achieve

Our ambition is to establish The Haven Retreats as a highly respected private recovery service on the Gold Coast, recognised for exceptional client care, individualised treatment and meaningful long-term outcomes.

We are intentionally keeping our client numbers small.

This gives our trainers and practitioners the opportunity to actually know the people they are working with and provide a level of personalised support that is difficult to achieve in high-volume environments.

As an early member of The Haven team, you will also have the opportunity to contribute ideas and help shape our physical wellbeing program from the beginning.

Flexible Engagement

We are open to discussing casual, part-time or contractor arrangements with the right candidate.

Morning availability will be particularly valuable as we intend physical activity to form an important part of our clients' daily routine.

There may also be opportunities for afternoon sessions, one-on-one training and additional recreational or outdoor activities.

We are interested in hearing from trainers with additional relevant qualifications or experience, including boxing, swimming, mobility, strength and conditioning, outdoor fitness, rehabilitation exercise or other wellbeing disciplines.

Join The Haven

If you're an exceptional trainer who believes fitness can help people rebuild confidence, routine and a stronger relationship with themselves, we would love to hear from you.

Please apply with your CV and a brief introduction outlining:

- Your qualifications and certifications
