Yard Coordinator / Forklift Operator – Hands-On Yard Leadership Role

We are looking for an energetic, switched-on Yard Coordinator / Forklift Operator to take a leading role in the day-to-day coordination of our busy scrap metal recycling facility.

n

This is not a role for someone who wants to sit in an office all day. You'll be out in the yard, communicating constantly over two-way radio, coordinating truck movements, directing drivers and jumping on a forklift whenever required.

n

You'll be one of the key people keeping the yard organised, safe and productive.

About the Role

n

Your day will involve:

n

n
- Coordinating incoming and outgoing truck movements throughout the yard
n
- Directing drivers to the correct loading, unloading and processing areas
n
- Communicating clearly and confidently using two-way radio
n
- Working closely with machine operators, truck drivers, weighbridge staff and management
n
- Operating forklifts to move, load and unload materials when required
n
- Monitoring traffic flow and preventing unnecessary congestion or delays
n
- Keeping loading and unloading areas organised and accessible
n
- Helping prioritise jobs when the yard becomes busy
n
- Maintaining strong housekeeping and safety standards across the site
n
- Identifying issues early and communicating them to the relevant people
n
- Being hands-on and helping the team wherever required
n

About You

n

You will need to be:

n

n




- An excellent communicator – particularly over two-way radio
n
- Confident giving clear instructions to truck drivers and operators
n
- Energetic, agile and comfortable being on your feet throughout the day
n
- Happy to regularly hop on and off a forklift as the operation requires
n
- Friendly, approachable and upbeat while still being able to take control when required
n
- Highly organised with good situational awareness
n
- Able to think quickly and prioritise multiple truck movements
n
- Safety focused and comfortable working around trucks and heavy machinery
n
- Reliable, punctual and willing to take ownership of the yard
n
- A team player who isn't afraid to get their hands dirty
n
- Ability to confidently use two-way radio communication
n
- Previous experience operating a forklift
n

Highly Regarded

n

n
- Experience in scrap metal, recycling, transport, logistics, warehousing or heavy industry
n
- Experience coordinating trucks or managing yard movements
n
- Experience working around heavy machinery
n
