Flood engineering is becoming one of the most influential disciplines in the development process.

n

The right modelling and engineering judgement can determine not only whether a development proceeds, but how entire communities, infrastructure and surrounding catchments ultimately perform.

n

A rapidly growing multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is looking for a Senior Flood Engineer to join its Brisbane CBD operation and take a leading role across an expanding portfolio of land development and flood management projects.

n

This is not simply a modelling position. We are looking for an experienced engineer who understands the numbers but, more importantly, understands what those numbers mean for a development, a client and the surrounding setting.

n

Your project involvement will include:

n

- Flood studies and flood impact assessments
n
- Hydrological and hydraulic modelling
n
- Flood risk assessment and mitigation strategies
n
- Brownfield and urban development projects
n
- Stormwater and drainage investigations
n
- Upstream and downstream development impacts
n
- GIS-based analysis and mapping
n
- Council and authority approval processes
n

n

Strong TUFLOW capability will be particularly important.

n

Experience across other modelling platforms and methodologies will also be highly regarded, including:

n

n
- RORB and/or WBNM
n
- HEC-RAS
n
- DRAINS
n

n

At Senior level, however, we're looking for considerably more than somebody who can build a good model.

n

You will take ownership of projects, interpret complex modelling results and turn them into practical engineering recommendations that developers, authorities and multidisciplinary design teams can understand and act upon.

n

Your responsibilities will include:

n

- Leading flood and hydraulic assessments
n
- Developing practical flood mitigation solutions
n




- Managing projects, programmes and technical deliverables
n
- Coordinating multidisciplinary project inputs
n
- Managing budgets and commercial performance
n
- Working directly with developers and other clients
n
- Liaising with councils, authorities, consultants and subcontractors
n
- Preparing and reviewing technical reports
n
- Mentoring and providing technical guidance to junior engineers
n
- Preparing fee proposals and variations
n
- Contributing to improved technical standards and methodologies
n

n

Ideally, you will have at least five years' experience across flood engineering, hydrology or hydraulic modelling within the Australian consulting environment.

n

Exposure to residential subdivision design - including roads, earthworks, drainage, water and sewer - would be particularly useful because it gives you an understanding of how flood engineering integrates with the broader development process.

n

A Civil Engineering degree is required, with RPEQ accreditation highly regarded.

n

Just as importantly, you need to communicate.

n

The successful person will be comfortable sitting with a developer explaining the implications of a flood study, negotiating technical issues with an authority, helping a junior engineer solve a modelling problem and working with civil engineers to find a solution that allows the overall development to move forward.
