Primary objective

Manage the development and delivery of assigned civil Capital Works, Minor Recent Works, and some Specific Maintenance projects to ensure projects are delivered to achieve the objectives.

Context statement The team provides project and contract management services to construct and maintain road and related civil infrastructure across the

Northern Territory, including bridges, aerodromes, barge landings and marine infrastructure. The position is a senior professional within the team and provides high-level project management services to achieve outcomes and leadership to less experienced staff.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Manage all phases of the project including planning, design, procurement and construction of assigned projects on the Capital Works,

Minor Works and Specific Maintenance programs.

Undertake the administrative role of Superintendent’s Representative for construction contracts and manage construction contracts

to ensure contracted works satisfy contractual obligations, comply with relevant legislation and conform to specified requirements.
1. Lead, manage and advise a diverse group of multi-disciplined resource teams on legislation, compliance matters and technical

standards.
1. Ensure contracts include compliance requirements for Work Health and Safety Legislation, Regulations and work practices standards

and all environmental requirements and standards.
1. Contribute to and/or conduct more complex investigations, investigating challenging operational and construction problems and

recommending solutions.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. A degree in Civil Engineering or similar field and registration, or eligibility for registration as an Engineer.
2. Expert civil engineering knowledge developed through years of work experience in civil design, construction and maintenance

techniques and practices, including roads, marine and building associated structures, best practice environmental management.
1. Strong Project Management skills and demonstrated high-level knowledge and expertise in contract management and administration,

development and interpretation of design and construction tender documentation and procurement processes.
1. Proven experience leading and directing project teams; contract and stakeholder negotiations, influencing positive outcomes, and

dispute resolution and relationship management reflecting a superior level of capability and capacity with specific and relatable examples.
1. High level written and verbal communication skills in presentations, contractual correspondence, authority submissions including the

ability to clearly articulate complex concepts; and a high level of competence in relation to legal implications and risks that relate directly to the dispute resolution process.
1. NT Drivers Licence and ability to travel to regional and remote centres when required.

1. Post graduate qualification in Project Management or similar.
