Future Business Systems/PIMdrop

Melbourne

About Us For more than 40 years, Future Business Systems (FBS Australia) has built the ERP and point-of-sale software that retailers and wholesalers across Australia and New Zealand run their businesses on. Our Harmony accounting platform and WinPOS point-of-sale system are trusted in over 2,000 retail outlets. As part of Vela APX, an operating group of Constellation Software Inc., we hold our businesses permanently — there is no exit clock and no funding round to chase, which means we can back a product idea for as long as it takes to get it right.

We're also changing how we build. AI agents are moving into our delivery pipeline, and that shifts the bottleneck away from engineering capacity and onto the quality of thinking that goes in at the front: how sharply a problem is framed, how precisely an idea is specified, how quickly a concept can be put in front of a real customer. Ideas that used to be “not this year” are now a conversation and a prototype. It's an unusually good moment to own a product here.

One of our newest products, PIMdrop (pimdrop.com), is a product information management platform that gives businesses a single source of truth for their product data, keeping it accurate and consistent across every sales channel, from point of sale to marketplaces and eCommerce. It's a good example of the kind of product work we want our next Product Manager to help lead.

The Role

You'll own the direction of one or more of our products end to end: what we build, who it's for, why it wins, and whether customers actually get value from it. That means the strategic work — roadmap, positioning, where the product goes next — and the unglamorous parts too: sitting in live demos, walking a customer through go-live, and watching someone use the thing you designed and seeing exactly where they get stuck.

We're not looking for someone to run ceremonies and groom a backlog. We're looking for someone with opinions about what should exist, and the drive to find out whether they're right. Twelve months in, we'd like at least one solution on the market that wouldn't have existed without you.

What You’d Get to Work On

- Retail product data is a genuine mess — the same item described five different ways across ERP, POS, digital catalogues, marketplaces and eCommerce. PIMdrop is our answer to that,

and it's early enough that its direction is still there to be shaped.
- Four decades of hard-won knowledge about how retail and wholesale businesses actually operate, encoded in our systems and our people. Very few companies have that. The question is what can now be built on top of it.
- A delivery pipeline where the cost of testing an idea is falling fast, and a mandate to use it — including for your own concepts.

Key Responsibilities

- Own and shape the roadmap and strategic direction for your product(s), balancing customer needs, market signals and business priorities — and be willing to argue for your view of it
- Get close enough to customers’ operations to see the problems they haven't yet articulated, not just the features they've asked for
- Turn those problems into requirements precise enough that both engineers and AI agents can build from them — increasingly the highest-leverage writing in the company
- Prototype and pressure-test your own concepts rather than waiting on a development cycle to find out whether an idea holds up
- Take an active, hands-on role in the sales cycle: product expertise, demonstrations and direct customer engagement that help win new business
- Guide customers through implementation and onboarding so value shows up early rather than eventually
- Act as the internal and external voice of the product, communicating direction to stakeholders at every level
- Watch what customers actually do with what you shipped, and be honest with yourself about what the evidence says

What You’ll Bring

- Experience owning a product, or a substantial part of one, in a Product Owner, Product Manager or similar role — around two years or more, though we care far more about what you've owned than how long you've been doing it
- Evidence that you make things: prototypes, side projects, a product you pushed from idea to launch, or something you built simply because it annoyed you that it didn't exist

- Fluency with AI tools as part of how you work — you've built, automated or shipped something with them, not just asked a chatbot the occasional question
- Unusually clear, precise writing. In an agentic pipeline, ambiguity is expensive and specificity compounds
- The judgement to prioritise well under real constraints, without hiding behind process
- Strong communication and stakeholder skills, and the ability to change register between a customer, a salesperson and a developer
- Curiosity about how businesses actually run. An interest in retail, ERP or POS technology is highly regarded, though not essential
- Comfort working in fast-changing delivery models. Agile or Scrum experience is useful; the willingness to help redesign how we deliver is more useful

Nice to Have

- Experience with a product information management (PIM) platform, or another data-heavy product where correctness and structure genuinely matter
- A background that is not a straight line — design, engineering, retail operations, founding something. We're more interested in range than in a tidy CV

Why Join Us

- Work on real products used by thousands of retailers across Australia and Current Zealand, where a good decision is visible in someone’s day within weeks
- Permanent ownership and patient capital behind you, so you can back a multi-year product bet instead of optimizing for the next quarter
- One of the first product roles here built around an agentic delivery pipeline — you'll help define how that works rather than inherit someone else’s process
- A collaborative team where product, sales and implementation sit side by side, so you're never more than a conversation away from a customer
- Hybrid working arrangements based in our Melbourne office

How to Apply

Send us your resume, and instead of a formal cover letter, a few paragraphs on any one of these:

- A product you think is exceptionally well designed, and precisely why
- A piece of retail or business software that frustrates you, and what you'd do about it
- Something you've built, at work or otherwise, that you're proud of

If you'd rather show than tell, send a link. Applications to [email protected].
- We read every one, and we look forward to hearing from you.

Salary Range : $95,000 -$105,000 per annum
