Program Officer

We are seeking an experienced Program Officer to support the planning, coordination, delivery and evaluation of programs and initiatives that create meaningful opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
This is an opportunity to contribute to community development, engagement and participation while building strong partnerships across government, community organisations and other key stakeholders.
About the Role
As Program Officer, you will work closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, community groups, government agencies, organisations and other stakeholders to develop and deliver programs that respond to community needs.
Key responsibilities will include
- Planning, coordinating, delivering and evaluating community programs and initiatives
- Building and maintaining robust relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
- Supporting the delivery of community, cultural, Reconciliation and NAIDOC Week activities
- Strengthening community engagement, participation and connection
- Developing and maintaining partnerships with government agencies, community organisations and other service providers
- Supporting funding submissions and identifying opportunities to secure additional resources
- Advocating for community needs with relevant organisations and service providers
- Coordinating projects, budgets, reporting and associated documentation
- Supporting and coordinating volunteers
- Developing creative and inclusive approaches to community engagement
- Maintaining effective information and work flow across programs and projects
- Providing a high level of customer service while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism
About You
We are looking for someone who has a genuine commitment to working alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and brings strong community engagement, program coordination and stakeholder relationship skills.
You will ideally have
- Demonstrated experience delivering community programs, projects or initiatives
- Experience working with and engaging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities
- Strong relationship-building and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience working with government agencies, community organisations, funding bodies and community groups
- An understanding of community development principles and practices
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience supporting or coordinating volunteers
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- The ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
- The ability to work respectfully, sensitively and confidentially with community
A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience in a similar role will be highly regarded. Experience working within a government environment or on a Reconciliation Action Plan Working Group will also be advantageous.
Key Selection Criteria
Applicants will be required to address each of the following criteria in their cover letter:
1. Experience in delivering successful programs and initiatives through partnering and collaborating with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
2. Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships and networks with diverse stakeholders,
including government agencies, community organisations, funding bodies and community groups.
3. Demonstrated experience engaging and partnering with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in a culturally safe, respectful and inclusive manner.
4. Demonstrated ability to work independently, under limited direction and to agreed timeframes.
5. Strong organisational and time management skills, including the ability to develop, coordinate and maintain effective work and information flow.
Essential Requirements
- Applicants must be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
- Current South Australian C Class Driver's Licence
- Ability to obtain a DHS Working with Children Check
- Willingness to undertake Child Safe Environment training
- Availability to undertake some out-of-hours work when required
