Yard Hand / General Labourer - Scrap Metal Yard Wacol We are a privately owned family business with a strong reputation in the scrap metal recycling industry. Our primary focus is the collection and processing of scrap metal to supply both domestic and international industries that use end-of-life metals to create new products.

About the role

We are looking for a reliable, hardworking and adaptable Yard Hand to join our team.

This is a varied, hands-on role suited to someone who is willing to help wherever needed. Depending on daily operational requirements, you may work in the picking and sorting area, assist with general labouring and housekeeping, or help coordinate vehicle movements around the yard.

For someone who is proactive, confident and switched on, there may also be opportunities to take on additional responsibilities, including helping manage traffic flow and communicating with drivers, operators and other team members using two-way radios.

Training will be provided, but you must be willing to learn, follow instructions and work safely in an active industrial workplace.

Key responsibilities

Picking, sorting and separating different types of materials

Performing general labouring and manual handling duties

Keeping work areas clean, safe and organised

Assisting operators and other team members as required

Helping with general yard activities and daily operational requirements





Supporting the safe movement of trucks and vehicles around the yard

Communicating with drivers, operators and weighbridge staff using two-way radios

Operating a forklift or other equipment where licensed and authorised

Using hand and power tools when required

Following all safety procedures, site rules and instructions

About you

We are looking for someone who:

Is reliable, punctual and genuinely keen to work

Has a strong work ethic and a positive attitude

Is flexible and willing to perform different duties when required

Takes initiative and can identify what needs to be done

Can follow instructions and work well as part of a team

Communicates clearly and confidently

Is physically fit and comfortable performing manual work

Can work outdoors in a busy industrial environment

Has a strong safety awareness and remains alert around trucks and heavy machinery

Has a current driver’s licence and reliable transport, as public transport to the area is limited

Current LF forklift licence and forklift operating experience (highly regarded)

Experience using two-way radios or UHF communication (desirable)

Experience assisting with traffic or vehicle movements in a busy yard (Advantageous)

This is a

casual position

working

day shifts Monday to Friday between 6AM to 5PM , with occasional Saturday work and

potential to become permanent based on performance and business needs.
