Maintenance Assistantto help keep our Melbourne student accommodation portfolio running smoothly.

Working across our two Melbourne CBD properties, you'll be responsible for resolving day-to-day maintenance issues, maintaining high presentation standards, and ensuring residents enjoy a secure, comfortable and well-maintained living environment.

Working closely with our Facilities Manager, you'll undertake routine repairs, room turnarounds, building inspections and contractor support. across two Melbourne CBD properties (approximately 15 minutes' walk apart)

Flexible working arrangements available including start/finish times and working days, provided business requirements are met

Minimal after-hours work, only required in VERY rare circumstances (1 - 2 times per year)

THE ROLE Day-to-Day Maintenance Complete routine maintenance and repair requests across both Melbourne properties, including in-room and common-area repairs.

Typical tasks may include:

Air conditioning faults

Leaking taps

Blocked drains

Door and lock repairs

Lighting faults

Minor wall repairs and painting

Furniture repairs

Basic plumbing issues, including water temperature and pressure concerns

You’ll be expected to diagnose maintenance issues, complete repairs where appropriate, and elevate more complex issues to the Facilities Manager and specialist contractors when required.

Resident Service & Job Management





Respond professionally to resident maintenance requests

Maintain accurate records through our maintenance management systems

Provide updates and close out completed jobs

Communicate clearly with residents throughout the maintenance process

Building Presentation & Inspections

Conduct regular building inspections and walkthroughs

Identify maintenance issues, safety risks and presentation concerns

Resolve minor issues where possible

Escalate larger issues as required

Room Turnarounds & Contractor Coordination Assist with preparing rooms between resident departures and arrivals, particularly during peak turnover periods in February and July.

This may include:

Patching and painting walls

Repairing minor damage

Addressing maintenance defects

Coordinating contractor access and site requirements

Supporting contractor compliance processes

Safety & Compliance

Follow all workplace health and safety requirements

Use appropriate PPE and safe work procedures

Identify and report hazards

Support compliance activities across both properties

Contribute to maintaining a safe environment for residents, contractors and team members

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

Previous experience in general maintenance, property maintenance, facilities management, handyman services or similar roles preferred

Practical maintenance and repair skills across a range of building systems and fixtures

Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship

Ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple responsibilities

Strong customer service and communication skills

Comfortable using digital systems to manage jobs and documentation

Understanding of workplace health and safety practices

Reliable, organised and able to work independently
