Records and Research Officer

About the role
We are offering a permanent role of Records and Research Officer in the team at our Railway Parade West Leederville office.
The Redress Support
Service provides support to individuals who have experienced Institutional Child Sexual Abuse and who are making an application for redress.
The Records Research
Officer is responsible for overseeing and delivering the records component of Redress program. Developing and delivering a client records search tailored to individual client circumstances and need.
The current vacancy is 30 hours per week.
Skills, experience, and qualifications
· Relevant experience in records management/archiving or librarianship, or other relevant disciplines
Essential criteria:
· Relevant experience in records management/archiving or librarianship, or other relevant disciplines
· Excellent on-line research capability and understanding of family history/genealogy
· Knowledge of privacy legislation and legal and administrative requirements for records access
· Knowledge of requirements for access to records from government and non-government sources.
· Understanding of the history of institutional and out of home care in Australia and of the issues/barriers faced by Forgotten Australians and Former Child Migrants
· Understanding of the history of Forced Adoption in Australia and the long-term impacts of this practice on adopted people, mothers, and their families
· Demonstrated ability to assist people with information gathering, personal record searching or similar
· Demonstrated competence in computer applications including word processing, use of data bases, electronic diary, email and web searches
