Primary objective
You will provide regional leadership and coordination for the Barkly region, across and beyond the Northern Territory Public Sector. This involves leading, partnering and coordinating with Government agencies, community organisations, and key stakeholders to rebuild the economy, reduce crime and restore the Territory lifestyle at the regional level.
Context statement The Department of the Chief Minister and Cabinet’s purpose is to deliver coordinated policy and priority reform, regional leadership, and high-quality support to Executive Government. This position reports to the Regional Executive Director,
Barkly.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead, design and implementation of regional strategies in partnership with NT agency and external stakeholders, to drive regional
initiatives and resolve issues, particularly as they relate to the NT Government priorities and identified opportunities and key challenges across the region.
1. Prepare high quality and evidence-based advice to the Department’s Executive, Ministers and Regional Coordination Committee and
provide strategic contextualised input to policy and program development to ensure effective and impactful delivery at a regional level.
1. Maintain and strengthen strategic and collaborative relationships with regional leaders, Traditional Owners and their organisations,
service providers, Land Councils, all tiers of Government, peak bodies and other stakeholders to support regional development and economic initiatives.
1. Work with regional and local stakeholders to develop cutting-edge strategies and initiatives that address key issues affecting the region.
2. Work with relevant agency leaders and stakeholders to develop, implement, coordinate, monitor cross-agency or sector initiatives.
3. Provide leadership, development and support for a small team of regionally based department staff.
4. Support and assist emergency preparedness,
resilience and recovery through Local Emergency Committees and planning.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated high-level strategic and innovative thinking skills with extensive experience in developing policy solutions, providing
high-level advice on current and emerging issues, and coordinating and implementing services and projects.
1. High-level written, oral and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to negotiate, collaborate and build and sustain
relationships and strategic alliances effectively with team members, internal and external stakeholders, NGO and private sectors, Indigenous, and community members at a senior level.
1. Demonstrated high level of political awareness, sensitivity, and judgement combined with demonstrated experience in working from
a whole-of-Government perspective, or the ability to quickly acquire.
1. High-level organizational and coordination skills including the ability to work autonomously and under pressure, prioritizing workloads,
and maintaining flexibility.
1. Demonstrated leadership and management experience at a senior level in a diverse organisation.
2. Well-developed cross-cultural awareness skills together with substantial knowledge of issues affecting people in remote and regional
areas.
Desirable
1. Formal qualifications in a relevant field or demonstrated experience.
Further Information This position requires the ability to travel to remote locations via 4WD vehicle or light aircraft for periods as required. A working with children (Ochre) card or ability and willingness to acquire may also be required.
