38 KATSU is a Japanese katsu specialist located in Canberra Centre.
We are a busy, modern Japanese restaurant focused on quality food, efficient service and creating a welcoming dining experience for our guests.
We are looking for an experienced and responsible Front of House Manager to take ownership of our FOH operations, lead the team and ensure the restaurant runs smoothly every day.
About the Role
This is a hands-on management position with responsibility for both daily service and the ongoing organisation of the FOH team.
You will be expected to lead the floor during service while also managing staff rosters, FOH stock and ordering, training and general day-to-day FOH operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day front of house operations
- Lead and supervise the FOH team during service
- Prepare and manage weekly staff rosters based on business requirements and staff availability
- Monitor staffing levels and assist with shift coverage when required
- Manage FOH stock levels and place orders for required supplies
- Ensure essential FOH items are ordered in advance and adequately stocked
- Train and onboard new FOH team members
- Monitor staff performance and provide ongoing feedback
- Maintain high standards of customer service and hospitality
- Handle customer enquiries, complaints and service recovery professionally
- Coordinate staff positioning, breaks and workflow during service
- Ensure opening and closing procedures are completed correctly
- Oversee POS, cash handling and end-of-day procedures
- Maintain cleanliness, presentation and organisation throughout the restaurant
- Communicate closely with the kitchen team to ensure smooth service
- Help maintain efficient labour levels while ensuring appropriate service coverage
- Ensure company policies, food safety and workplace procedures are followed
- Identify operational issues and communicate them promptly to management
About You We are looking for someone who:
- Has previous FOH management or supervisory experience in hospitality
- Has experience preparing staff rosters
- Is comfortable managing stock and placing supplier orders
- Has strong leadership and communication skills
- Is confident managing a team in a busy restaurant environment
- Is highly organised and able to plan ahead
- Takes ownership and responsibility rather than waiting to be directed
- Can make decisions and solve problems independently during service
- Has strong customer service skills
- Works well under pressure
- Is comfortable maintaining standards and giving transparent direction to staff
- Has availability across weekdays, weekends and busy trading periods
- Has the right to work in Australia
Experience in Japanese restaurants or high-volume hospitality is highly regarded, but not essential.
