Commercial Adviser supporting major Defence programs through commercial strategy, stakeholder engagement, and complex acquisition activities.

- Support complex Defence acquisition and capability projects
- Work closely with Defence stakeholders and industry partners to develop commercial strategies

Tell me about this role:

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Advisor to provide strategic commercial advice within a complex Defence acquisition environment.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team and alongside industry partners, you will help shape commercial strategies, support major procurement activities, manage stakeholder relationships, and deliver best-for-Defence outcomes across high-profile Air Defence capability programs.
This role will play a key part in developing and executing commercial approaches, supporting engagements with domestic and international stakeholders, and ensuring commercial activities align with program schedules, budgets, and broader Defence objectives. It is ideally suited to a commercially astute professional with experience in complex acquisition projects and a strong understanding of Defence procurement and contracting frameworks.

What will I be doing day to day?

- Provide strategic commercial advice to support the development and delivery of Defence capability programs.
- Develop commercial strategies, procurement approaches, and supporting documentation for complex acquisition activities.
- Support engagements with international partners, including Foreign Military Sales (FMS) and Direct Commercial Sales (DCS) arrangements.




- Ensure commercial activities align with project schedules, budgets, risk profiles, and future program phases.
- Advise on complex commercial matters, including intellectual property, technical data, confidential information, and government-furnished assets.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Defence stakeholders, industry partners, and external advisors.
- Lead industry engagement activities and support the development of commercial documentation for market interactions.
- Coordinate with legal and probity specialists to resolve complex commercial and contractual issues.
- Support the transition and implementation of future contracting arrangements under Defence commercial frameworks.
- Deliver knowledge transfer, mentoring, and training activities to enhance internal APS and ADF commercial capability.
- Contribute to business planning, governance activities, and other commercial initiatives as required.

What sort of skills do I need?

- Minimum 6 years' relevant commercial experience, preferably within a Defence environment.
- Demonstrated experience providing commercial advice within complex acquisition or procurement environments.
- Strong understanding of Defence contracting, procurement, and commercial governance frameworks.
- Experience developing commercial strategies, procurement documentation, and approach-to-market activities.
- Knowledge of Foreign Military Sales (FMS) and Direct Commercial Sales (DCS) arrangements is highly regarded.
- Experience managing commercial issues relating to intellectual property, technical data,



and confidential information.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and industry partners.
- Experience working with legal, probity, and procurement specialists to manage commercial risks and outcomes.
- Ability to operate independently while collaborating effectively within integrated project teams.
- Excellent written communication skills, including the preparation of high-quality commercial documentation and advice.
- Current Australian Government Security Clearance (Minimum NV1 with the ability to obtain NV2)
