Kurrent is building a different kind of accounting firm for growing Australian businesses.

We started in R&D; tax, where we approached qualified services with a technology-first mindset, using better systems, automation and structured workflows to reduce repetitive work and improve the client experience.

Now we’re applying that same thinking to accounting.

Our goal is to use technology and AI to handle more of the repetitive work, so accountants can spend more time on judgment, client relationships and helping businesses make better decisions.

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Accountant and Registered Tax Agent who wants more than a traditional accounting role.

You won’t just be handed a portfolio and asked to process work. You’ll join early and help shape how Kurrent operates, how we serve clients and how the practice grows.

The role

You’ll work closely with the founder to help build and lead Kurrent’s accounting practice.

Initially, the role will be hands-on, with responsibility across client work, review, tax and compliance oversight, and supervision of junior accountants.

You’ll also help us improve how the practice operates, including workflows, review standards, service delivery, technology and where automation can remove low-value work.

As Kurrent grows, we expect the role to move increasingly toward review, judgment, client relationships, team leadership and practice development.

What you’ll be responsible for

- Reviewing bookkeeping, reconciliations and month-end work
- Reviewing and overseeing BAS, IAS and other compliance work
- Preparing and/or reviewing annual accounts and tax returns
- Providing technical accounting and tax guidance
- Supervising junior accountants and reviewing their work
- Acting as one of Kurrent’s supervising Registered Tax Agents




- Helping maintain appropriate TPB supervision and quality-control processes
- Handling more complex client questions and accounting issues
- Joining client meetings where senior input is required
- Identifying issues clients should be aware of before they have to ask
- Improving workflows, templates and internal processes
- Helping decide where technology and AI can safely improve delivery

Kurrent is still early, so we’re looking for someone who sees that as an opportunity to help shape the firm rather than simply step into an existing system. What we’re looking for technically

Essential

- Current Registered Tax Agent registration
- Strong Australian public practice experience
- Strong business services and tax experience
- Experience reviewing accounting and tax work
- Experience dealing directly with clients




- Strong working knowledge of Xero
- Confidence across Australian income tax, GST, BAS, IAS and financial statements

Highly regarded

- CA or CPA qualification
- Experience supervising accountants or offshore team members
- Experience managing a client portfolio
- Experience improving systems, workflows or practice operations
- Experience working with founder-led SMEs or service businesses

Engagement

This will initially be a contractor position, paid hourly.

Indicative rate: A$105–$130 per hour depending on experience and capability.

We are happy to pay for both client delivery and genuine practice-building work.

There is significant room for the role to grow over time, potentially into a Head of Accounting or broader leadership position.

Education

- Bachelor Degree (Preferred)
