Our client is a growing boutique commercial law firm seeking an experienced Senior Associate – Commercial, Litigation & Construction to join its Melbourne practice.

This is an opportunity for a commercially minded lawyer looking to take on a senior position with greater autonomy, direct client exposure and leadership responsibility across a diverse range of commercial legal matters.

Working closely with the Principal, you'll manage your own portfolio across Commercial Law, Commercial Litigation and Construction Law, while supervising and mentoring junior members of the legal team.

The role is particularly suited to a lawyer with strong commercial and contractual capability who enjoys working across both transactional and contentious matters and can provide clients with practical, commercially focused advice.

What You'll Do
- Independently manage a diverse portfolio of commercial, litigation and construction matters, taking ownership of files from initial instructions through to completion or resolution.
- Advise businesses, developers and private clients on commercial transactions, contractual arrangements, commercial agreements and contractual rights and obligations, providing practical advice that considers both legal risk and commercial objectives.
- Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial contracts, transactional documents, agreements, legal correspondence and other complex legal documentation.
- Manage commercial disputes and litigation matters,



including developing dispute resolution strategies, drafting substantive correspondence and legal documentation, negotiating commercial outcomes and working with Counsel, experts and other advisers where required.
- Advise on building and construction matters, including contractual issues and disputes arising from commercial and development projects, with the scope of work tailored to the successful candidate's existing construction experience.
- Take responsibility for client relationships by leading discussions, providing proactive advice, managing expectations and becoming a trusted legal adviser to allocated clients.
- Work collaboratively with accountants, financiers, consultants, Counsel and other professional advisers to develop practical solutions to complex commercial and legal issues.
- Supervise and mentor junior legal team members by delegating work, reviewing documentation, providing technical guidance and supporting their professional development.

What You'll Bring
- Ideally 4+ years' PQE with experience across Commercial Law and/or Commercial Litigation.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage matters and client relationships.
- Strong experience advising on commercial contracts and contractual matters.
- Commercial litigation and dispute resolution experience.
- Construction Law or construction litigation experience will be highly regarded.
- Excellent legal drafting, negotiation and analytical skills.
- Strong commercial judgement and the ability to translate complex legal issues into practical advice.
- Confidence dealing directly with business owners and senior client stakeholders.
- Experience supervising or mentoring junior legal staff.
