As the Senior Conservation Officer, you will be part of DETSI's Threatened Species Operations team, which is responsible for planning and delivering projects and providing advice to support the protection and management of Queensland's threatened species across terrestrial, freshwater and marine environments.

Your role will specifically involve undertaking research and monitoring of threatened terrestrial fauna to promote their conservation.

Your contribution

- Design and implement research and monitoring projects to inform species and threat management (including the application of camera-trapping and acoustic recording and analysis techniques) and identify knowledge gaps.

- Undertake project management, fieldwork, data analysis and reporting.





- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to build enduring positive relationships that will improve the management and long-term conservation of threatened terrestrial fauna.

- Share knowledge (via reports, publications, media and conference presentations) using your well-developed oral and written communication skills to guide decision-making and the implementation of relevant actions to conserve threatened species.

- Promote a safe, respectful and inclusive workplace environment.

You Must Have

- Australian citizenship or the legal right to work in this country.

- An unrestricted manual driver's licence or be prepared to obtain one.

- A university degree in environmental management, zoology, ecology or an agreed equivalent from a recognised tertiary institution.

About You

- You have excellent research ability and have applied the principles and practices of ecological research and monitoring to the conservation management of threatened species.

- You have high-level commitment and an ability to build and sustain effective working relationships and to consult and negotiate with internal and external stakeholders.

- You work effectively as an individual and within a team environment to handle competing priorities and complete tasks within required timelines and quality expectations.

- You are able to play a role in informing and responding to emerging issues and threats affecting threatened species (e.g., Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza).

- You support a workplace environment in which safety, equity, diversity, respect and inclusion are valued, with zero tolerance for bullying, discrimination and harassment.

- You are physically fit and able to lead and work with others in field environments, including in remote areas for extended periods.
