J & J Industry Pty Ltd is a stainless steel fabrication business specialising in the design, manufacture and fabrication of custom stainless steel products and components.

Our workshop is supported by experienced Sheetmetal Workers and Welders, delivering fabricated products from technical drawings and customer requirements. We are seeking a Welding Engineering Technician to join our team and provide technical support across design, fabrication and welding operations.

About the Role:

The Welding Engineering Technician will work closely with our design, production and workshop teams to assist with the design and manufacture of stainless steel products.

The role combines technical design, welding and fabrication knowledge, production support and quality control. You will help translate customer and engineering requirements into practical fabrication drawings and manufacturing instructions while supporting Sheetmetal Workers and Welders during production.

Key Responsibilities:

- Assist with the design and development of stainless steel fabricated products and components.
- Prepare and review fabrication drawings, shop drawings and technical documentation.
- Use CAD/design software to prepare drawings and production information for the workshop.
- Interpret engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances and welding symbols.
- Determine suitable fabrication methods, weld joints and welding processes for stainless steel components.
- Provide technical guidance and production information to Sheetmetal Workers and Welders.
- Assist with material selection, sheet thickness, joint configuration and welding requirements.
- Assist with the preparation and maintenance of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and welding-related documentation.
- Monitor welding and fabrication activities to ensure work complies with drawings, specifications and quality requirements.
- Inspect fabricated and welded components for dimensions, workmanship and conformity with design requirements.




- Identify fabrication or welding issues and work with workshop personnel to develop practical solutions.
- Assist with resolving problems involving weld quality, distortion, fit-up, dimensions and fabrication tolerances.
- Coordinate with workshop staff to improve fabrication methods, workflow and production efficiency.
- Maintain technical drawings, production records, welding documentation and quality records.
- Assist with estimating material requirements and preparing cutting/fabrication information where required.
- Support continuous improvement of stainless steel fabrication and welding processes.
- Ensure work is undertaken in accordance with workplace health and safety requirements.

Skills and Experience:

The successful candidate will ideally have:

·A minimum of three (3) years of work experience as Welding Engineering Technician.

·Knowledge of stainless steel fabrication and welding processes.

·Experience with sheet metal fabrication, welding or manufacturing environments.

·Ability to read and prepare engineering and fabrication drawings.

·Experience using CAD/design software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks or similar.

·Understanding of common welding processes including TIG/GTAW and MIG/GMAW.

·Understanding of stainless steel materials, fabrication methods and welding requirements.

·Experience with laser welding of stainless steel components, including appropriate welding parameters, joint preparation, fit-up, and quality requirements.

·Knowledge of weld joints, welding symbols, tolerances and fabrication practices.

·Good practical problem-solving skills and the ability to work closely with workshop personnel.

·Good communication and technical documentation skills.

·Solid attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Desirable Experience:

Experience in any of the following would be advantageous:

- Stainless steel sheet metal fabrication
- TIG welding of stainless steel
- Custom stainless steel product design
- Sheet metal CAD/design
- CNC laser cutting, plasma cutting or press brake operations
- Welding procedure documentation
- Fabrication inspection and quality control
