Role Description

This is a full-time Senior Project Manager role based in our North Sydney office, with hybrid flexibility and regular site travel.

You’ll take end-to-end ownership of a portfolio of Smart’s largest and most complex commercial solar projects, typically from 500kW through to multi-MW, including multi-site programs, ground-mount installations and battery energy storage projects.

This is a senior delivery role with genuine commercial and technical accountability. You’ll own project scope, contracts, budgets, margin, programs, risk and client outcomes, while providing senior technical oversight across design, construction, commissioning and handover.

You’ll also act as a senior escalation point for the wider Projects team, providing guidance and mentoring to Project Managers and Project Engineers and helping lift delivery standards as our portfolio grows.

Key responsibilities include

- Owning the financial, commercial and delivery performance of a portfolio of major projects.
- Managing contracts, variations, claims,



subcontractors, procurement and commercial negotiations.
- Leading project programs, resourcing, risk management and recovery strategies.
- Providing senior technical oversight across PV, BESS, grid connection, structural and construction requirements.
- Ensuring projects meet Australian standards, CEC guidelines, DNSP requirements and Smart’s quality and safety standards.
- Leading commissioning, handover and project close-out.
- Building robust relationships with senior client stakeholders, contractors and suppliers.
- Supporting and mentoring Project Managers and Project Engineers, and acting as a senior escalation point for complex issues.
- Reporting portfolio performance, financials, risks and delivery status to the Program Head.
- Driving continuous improvement across project delivery, processes and tools.
- Contributing technical and commercial input to tenders and pre-construction planning.

Qualifications

- 7+ years’ project management experience, with substantial experience delivering commercial solar projects from 500kW upwards.
- Demonstrated experience with multi-MW, multi-site and/or ground-mount solar projects. BESS experience is highly regarded.
- Strong commercial and contract management experience, including variations, claims, extensions of time and subcontractor management.




- Deep understanding of the Australian electricity industry, photovoltaic systems and grid-connected energy projects.
- Strong understanding of technical, structural, electrical and grid connection requirements for commercial solar.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex technical, commercial and delivery issues independently.
- Excellent financial, organisational and project planning skills, with experience managing multiple major projects simultaneously.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, including experience working with senior clients and executive stakeholders.
- Engineering, construction management or related tertiary qualification, or equivalent industry experience.
- CEC accreditation for grid-connected system design is highly regarded.
- PMP, PRINCE2 or similar project management qualification is desirable.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office and project scheduling tools such as Microsoft Project.
