The Opportunity

As a Senior Quality Engineer - Integration, you'll play a central role in ensuring the reliability and integrity of WorkCover Queensland's enterprise systems during a period of significant technology change. Embedded within a team-oriented engineering team, you'll own the end-to-end quality assurance of integration touchpoints across our platforms -- ensuring data flows accurately, APIs perform as designed, and releases meet the highest standards before they reach production.

Reports to the Manager Integration Delivery and leads the development and maturity of integration test automation and quality engineering practices at WorkCover Queensland. The role establishes and evolves test automation frameworks, standards, and governance across Technology Services & Security, with a focus on integration domains. Working closely with development, platform, release management, and security teams, the role strengthens DevOps and continuous testing practices to improve delivery speed, quality, and customers outcomes.

The position drives adoption of test automation and continuous testing across engineering disciplines, fostering a strong quality engineering culture and enabling high-quality, reliable solutions that are aligned to organisational strategy.

What We're Looking For

- Lead and drive adoption of test automation and continuous testing practices across engineering teams

- Define and evolve test automation frameworks, standards, governance, and metrics to improve quality outcomes

- Provide technical leadership and guidance on integration testing approaches for iPaaS, SaaS, middleware, and cloud-based solutions. Preferably Microsoft Azure Integration Services.

- Design, develop, and maintain automated test suites (including API and integrated testing) to support CI/CD pipelines

- Ensure effective test coverage, traceability, and adherence to WCQ testing frameworks and policies Collaborate with development, platform, release,



and security teams to embed quality engineering practices into delivery

- Support and optimise test environments, test data management, and secure testing practices

- Promote continuous improvement by identifying automation opportunities and reducing technical deby

- Coach and mentor engineers in test automation, quality engineering practices, and non-functional testing approaches

- Analyse defects and quality issues, identify root causes, and implement improvements to prevent recurrence

- Communicate and influence stakeholders to build a strong quality culture and ensure alignment with governance and standards

- Plan and prioritise work to support multiple teams and deliver to operational and strategic objectives

What You'll Bring

- Relevant computer science, information technology or similar degree desirable

- International Software Testing Qualifications Board (ISTQB) or similar foundation level certification desirable

- 7+ years of dedicated software testing experience, with a heavy emphasis on backend, middleware, and integration testing rather than UI-focused QA.

- Extensive API Expertise: Deep understanding of Web Services (REST, SOAP), HTTP protocols, and status codes.

Data Formats: Advanced proficiency in reading, writing, and manipulating JSON and XML data structures.

- Test Automation: Hands-on experience building out API and integration automation suites, with specific proficiency in Karate DSL, Postman

- Robust, demonstrable, hands-on, and recent Playwright and Karate API experience, preferably in agile development teams.

Note: any experience using Generative AI in test script creation will be highly regarded

- Database Mastery: Strong SQL skills for complex database querying, joins, and data validation across relational databases.

- Integration Platforms:



Proven experience testing within an iPaaS environment, ESBs, APIs, Microservices and Webservices.

Preferably Microsoft Azure Integration

Services

- Strong understanding of API security testing, including authentication, authorization, and OAuth 2.0 flows. Solid understanding of cloud-based architectures and microservices.

- Experience integrating test automation with CI/CD workflows (GitHub Actions), and Jira Xray

- Experience operating in fast-paced Agile/Scrum environments and Ability to influence stakeholders through effective communication.

- Strong facilitation skills and ability to align multiple stakeholders to common goals.

- Demonstrated ability to transition seamlessly between crafting robust automation scripts and performing analytical manual testing.

- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with other professionals, managers, and external providers

- Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across Digital and Technology and the wider organisation, encouraging a culture of working together as one WorkCover team.

- Communicate with stakeholders giving responsible, honest, and timely information and feedback
