Project Architect/Senior Architect | Defence | Sydney An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Project Architect / Senior Architect with previous experience working on Defence projects. In this role you would be joining a well-established and highly regarded architectural practice in Sydney.

This position is suited to an architectural professional with 7–15+ years’ post-graduate experience who is looking to work on significant, complex and design-focused projects within a stable and supportive practice.

Working within a highly experienced architectural team, you will take a key role in the design, documentation, coordination and delivery of major projects, with a particular focus on the Australian Defence sector.

Your responsibilities will include:

Leading and contributing to Defence and other significant design-led architectural projects

Taking projects through design development, documentation, coordination and delivery

Leading the preparation and review of architectural documentation in Revit

Managing and coordinating internal architectural teams across key project stages

Coordinating with clients, consultants, contractors and multidisciplinary project teams





Leading consultant coordination and resolving complex design, technical and construction-related issues

Participating in and leading design reviews, project meetings and stakeholder presentations

Managing project deliverables, programmes and key milestones

Ensuring documentation complies with relevant Australian codes, standards, Defence requirements and project-specific criteria

Reviewing documentation and maintaining a high level of technical and design quality

Supporting project resourcing, workflow and delivery requirements

Working within secure Defence and Government project environments

Mentoring and supporting Graduate Architects and less experienced members of the architectural team

Contributing to a collaborative, design-focused and supportive studio culture

To be considered for this role, you must have:

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Architecture, or equivalent recognised qualification

7–15+ years’ post-graduate architectural experience

Demonstrated professional experience working on Australian Defence projects

Experience working within secure Defence and/or Government project environments

High-level proficiency in Revit

Strong project leadership and architectural delivery experience

Strong architectural design, documentation and technical skills

Proven experience working across multiple stages of architectural project delivery

Experience coordinating and managing multidisciplinary consultant teams

Strong client, consultant and stakeholder management skills

A sound understanding of Australian building codes, regulations, standards and construction requirements

The ability to resolve complex architectural, technical and construction-related issues

Strong organisational and project management skillsExcellent communication and interpersonal skills

Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem solving

The ability to work effectively both independently and within multidisciplinary project teams





The ability to mentor and support more junior architectural team members

A genuine interest in high-quality, design-focused architecture

Mandatory Defence & Security Requirements Due to the sensitive nature of the projects associated with this position, the following requirements are essential and non-negotiable:

Applicants must hold full Australian citizenship

Applicants must have the appropriate legal and security eligibility to work on Australian Defence projects

Previous experience working on Australian Defence projects is essential

Applicants must hold, or be eligible to obtain and maintain, the required Australian Government security clearance

Applicants must be able to successfully complete all required security, probity, background and project-specific checks

Applicants with current or previous foreign citizenship, residency or relevant foreign affiliations must satisfy all applicable Defence security, nationality and project-specific eligibility requirements

Where Defence project access is restricted according to nationality, country of origin or other security requirements, applicants must meet the relevant approved-country eligibility criteria applicable to the project

Candidates who do not meet the mandatory Defence security, citizenship and project eligibility requirements will not be considered for this position.

Location Requirements The role is based in Sydney, and applicants should ideally already be located in Sydney. Candidates currently based interstate may also be considered; however, interstate applicants must have demonstrated Australian Defence project experience, full Australian citizenship and the required eligibility to work on secure Australian Defence projects.
