Our client is a specialist biotech company operating from the Translational Research Institute (TRI) in Brisbane, focused on developing innovative therapeutics through advanced preclinical and translational research. This is a rare opportunity to step into a pivotal senior scientific role leading meaningful oncology programs with real-world impact.

Our client is seeking a Senior Translational Scientist to lead and execute complex preclinical studies across in vitro, ex-vivo, and in vivo models, while mentoring a high-performing team and driving project delivery in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

This is a hands-on leadership role - you’ll be responsible for planning experiments end-to-end, managing resources and schedules, and ensuring high-quality, reproducible outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

- Design, organise and execute advanced translational studies across in vitro/ex-vivo/in vivo models

- Deliver core molecular & cellular workflows (e.g. Western blot, qPCR/RT-PCR, IHC/IF, flow cytometry, cell culture)

- Run preclinical oncology studies including tumour burden, biodistribution, toxicity/efficacy, survival analysis and reporting

- Perform and/or oversee animal procedures (handling, dosing/injections, dissections, organ collection, euthanasia)

- Conduct data analysis and statistical interpretation; produce clear written reports and presentations





- Prepare non-clinical data packages supporting IND-enabling activities and contribute to investigator brochures/patent support where required

- Mentor, train and guide junior scientists/research assistants; support a positive, resilient team culture

- Maintain strong compliance to SOPs and quality standards (GLP exposure ideal)

What You’ll Bring

- PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related discipline

- 5–10 years post-PhD experience (academia and/or industry) in translational / preclinical research

- Solid background in cancer research and preclinical model execution

- Demonstrated project leadership (planning, resourcing, timelines, troubleshooting)

- Strong communication style and emotional intelligence—able to lead thoughtfully in a high-change environment

- Experience with grant success and/or drug development program delivery is highly regarded

Highly Regarded

- Preclinical imaging exposure (e.g. PET, SPECT, CT, bioluminescence)

- Radioligand-binding assays / gamma counter / SPR

- Queensland radiation user licence (or ability to obtain)

- Experience contributing to regulatory documentation and IND-relevant nonclinical reporting
