Casual skipper sought for a busy marine tourism business operating tours and charters out of Fremantle and Rottnest Island. No two days are ever the same - with 3 different day tours, private charters and sunset sails offered across a rotating schedule.
You will share the skipper responsibility on a 60/40 or 50/50 split. This is flexible as long as minimum 2 days a week. Fixed days may also be possible for the right candidate. Work includes mornings through to evenings on some days, to 8.30pm latest.
The vessel is a 12.5m fibreglass twin hull sailing catamaran with twin outboard engines. Surveyed for 38 guests daytime however most days this is under 25. In addition to the minimum commercial tickets we're looking for someone who enjoys being around people and can work with a small crew (1 or 2 deckhands) to deliver exceptional experiences.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
- Secure and professional operation of a 12.5m sailing vessel (catamaran) and its passengers
- Supporting tour operations e.g. preparing tea/coffee, assisting guests with snorkel gear, cooking.
- Maintaining accurate logs as well as effective communication with our land based team
- Assist with servicing and ad hoc repairs
- Follow key procedure plans and the vessel SMS at all times
About You:
- Minimum Master <24 (Master 5) + Outboard engines course unit e.g. obtained through Coxswain.
- Radio Operators License
- Exceptional time management skills
- Exceptional communication skills
- Minimum 2 seasons or 12 months skippering of a similar size commercial vessel
- Sailing Experience - strongly preferred
- Proven ability to follow process and act in a safe manner at all times
- Confident navigating charts, not just relying on electronics
- Current First Aid Certificate
- You bring a strong work ethic and are practically minded

You will be joined by 1 or 2 deckhands on the day to support you - often from marine science or similar marine tourism backgrounds. This isn't a party boat or your average charter operation. We pride ourselves on delivering high quality marine experiences to guests from across Perth, Australia and overseas.
