SOCIAL & CONTENT COORDINATOR

Location: Sydney

Employment Type: 6 month contract (potential for future FTE)

Start Date: ASAP

Reports to: Marketing & Content Manager

ABOUT TROPFEST

Tropfest is one of Australia’s most iconic cultural brands and a globally recognised platform for discovering new voices in film and entertainment. As Tropfest enters its next chapter, we’re building something bigger around it. A year-round platform spanning film, entertainment, creators, culture and live experiences across Tropfest, Trop Jr, Roughcut and a growing calendar of programs, partnerships and content.

We’re looking for a Social & Content Coordinator to help shape and run Tropfest’s social channels and bring that next chapter to life for a new generation of audiences.

You’ll have the opportunity to work with an incredible mix of talent across film and entertainment, from our Jury and Tropfest alumni to filmmakers, creators, influencers, partners and emerging talent, turning those relationships and moments into content people genuinely want to watch, share and engage with.

THE ROLE The Social & Content Coordinator will own the day-to-day running of Tropfest’s social channels and content activity, working closely with the Marketing & Content Manager and Partnerships Lead.

You’ll help shape how Tropfest shows up on social, from ideas and cultural moments through to hands-on execution. That means writing, shooting, editing, publishing, briefing creatives, capturing talent and events, and engaging our online community.

You’ll be creative, culturally curious and confident getting on the tools, while also being highly organised, self-sufficient and comfortable working with everyone from emerging filmmakers and creators to high-profile talent, influencers and partners.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

SOCIAL MEDIA & COMMUNITY

- Manage day-to-day activity across Tropfest’s social channels, including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and LinkedIn.
- Create, schedule and publish engaging, platform-native content in line with the agreed content strategy, brand and publishing calendar.
- Manage community engagement, including comments, messages and audience interactions.
- Identify relevant trends,

conversations and cultural moments where Tropfest has a credible reason to participate.

CONTENT CREATION & PRODUCTION

- Write engaging social copy, captions, headlines and short-form content across Tropfest’s channels.
- Create social-first content for Instagram and TikTok, including Reels, Stories, short-form video, carousels and static content.
- Capture and edit video content across events, behind-the-scenes moments, filmmakers, talent and the wider Tropfest community.
- Create simple, high-quality social assets in Canva and repurpose existing content into platform-native formats.
- Brief and coordinate designers, photographers, videographers and other creative suppliers, communicating clear requirements, messaging and deadlines.
- Work across the Tropfest network to source content opportunities and develop new formats, recurring series and ideas for year-round content.

CONTENT PLANNING & CAMPAIGNS

- Support the Marketing & Content Manager in maintaining the social and content calendar across Tropfest’s year-round activity.
- Work with the Marketing & Content Manager, Partnerships Lead and wider team to deliver social and content activity across campaigns, events, programs and partnerships.
- Coordinate content requirements, approvals and publishing timelines across internal stakeholders, partners and external suppliers.

REPORTING & OPTIMISATION

- Monitor social and content performance, using platform insights and audience behaviour to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Test new formats, creative approaches and content ideas, using performance insights to inform future activity.

ABOUT YOU

You’re social-native, culturally curious and instinctively understand what earns attention. You’re a strong writer and confident content creator who can take an idea from concept to execution, work independently and keep things moving.

You’re comfortable bringing personality to a brand, working with talent, getting behind or in front of the camera and responding to cultural moments. Most importantly, you have good judgement. You know when to move quickly, when to push an idea further and when something isn’t right for the brand.

EXPERIENCE & SKILLS

Essential

- Demonstrated experience in social media, content creation, digital marketing or a similar role.
- Strong copywriting and editing skills, with an ability to adapt writing for different platforms and audiences.
- Hands-on experience creating social content for Instagram and TikTok, including short-form video.
- Video editing skills and experience using Canva to create social and digital assets.
- Experience briefing and working with designers, photographers, videographers or other creative suppliers.
- Strong understanding of social platforms, formats, audience behaviour and community management.
- Solid organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines independently.
- Excellent communication and judgement, with the confidence to take ownership while knowing when to seek input or approval.

Highly regarded

- Experience within entertainment, film, media, festivals, events, sport, music or cultural organisations.
- Experience working directly with creators, influencers or talent.

WORKING AT TROPFEST

This is an opportunity to join Tropfest at an exciting point in its evolution and help shape how one of Australia’s best-known cultural brands connects with the next generation.

You’ll work across our flagship festival, year-round programs and content, alongside filmmakers, creators and talent across the entertainment industry. As part of a small, ambitious team, you’ll have genuine ownership and the opportunity to see ideas move quickly from concept to execution.

As an event-led organisation, some flexibility is required around key launches, programs and festival periods, including occasional evening or weekend work and some interstate travel. In return, we take a flexible and practical approach to how the team works, including reasonable time off around peak delivery periods.
