About the Role

n

Are you an experienced RTI or Privacy skilled looking for your next opportunity?

n

We are seeking a Principal RTI / Privacy Advisor to provide specialist advice and leadership across complex Right to Information, Privacy and information access matters within a Queensland Government organisation.

n

This is a senior advisory position suited to an experienced practitioner who can operate with a high degree of autonomy, provide sound legislative and risk-based advice, and work confidently with senior stakeholders.

n

You may come from a strong RTI, Privacy or related information governance background. You do not need to be an expert across both areas - strong experience in either RTI or Privacy will be considered.

n

The position is initially offered as a contract through to 4 December 2026, with potential for extension or permanent appointment.

n

Key Responsibilities

n

n
- Provide specialist and authoritative advice on complex RTI, Privacy and information access matters.
n
- Lead the assessment and management of complex or sensitive requests, enquiries and related legislative matters.
n
- Provide advice on the interpretation and application of relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
n
- Exercise delegated decision-making responsibilities where required, including preparing clear and defensible Statements of Reasons.
n




- Provide specialist input into Privacy Impact Assessments, privacy risks, data breaches and privacy complaints where relevant to your area of expertise.
n
- Act as a senior technical resource for the team, providing guidance, mentoring and support to colleagues.
n
- Build effective relationships with senior stakeholders and provide advice on emerging risks, issues and legislative requirements.
n
- Contribute to the development and improvement of policies, procedures, guidance and processes.
n
- Liaise with relevant external stakeholders and oversight bodies, including the Office of the Information Commissioner.

About You

n

We are looking for an experienced RTI or Privacy professional who can demonstrate solid technical capability and the judgement to operate at a Principal level.

n

You will ideally have:

n

n
- Significant experience in RTI, Privacy, information access or a related legislative or compliance environment.
n
- Strong knowledge of, and practical experience applying, the Right to Information Act 2009 (Qld) and/or Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld).
n
- Experience managing complex matters and providing high-level advice to stakeholders.
n
- Strong written skills,



including the ability to prepare clear and defensible advice and Statements of Reasons.
n
- The ability to interpret legislation, assess risk and provide practical recommendations.
n
- Experience with delegated decision-making, Privacy Impact Assessments or privacy breach management will be highly regarded.
n
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the confidence to work with senior leaders and external stakeholders.
n
- The ability to mentor others, share technical knowledge and contribute to continuous improvement.
n

You do not need to have experience across both RTI and Privacy. We are open to strong RTI specialists, Privacy specialists and professionals with experience across both disciplines.
