About The Role

As members of the English and Literacy Unit, Literacy Coaches support improved literacy outcomes for South Australian students by providing specialist expertise in phonics instruction and effective reading pedagogy, including students with dyslexia and other learning difficulties.

The Literacy

Coaches focus on targeted, evidence-based coaching and modelling of effective practice to build teacher capability and strengthen English and literacy instruction.

Literacy Coaches work collaboratively with principals, school leaders, teachers, and Department for Education colleagues to deliver responsive professional learning and support. This includes supporting the delivery of statewide initiatives such as the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check and Year 2 Phonics Recheck, running professional learning events, and helping schools use data to inform differentiated teaching and reading intervention. The purpose of this work is to ensure all students develop the literacy skills that are critical to their learning, wellbeing, and future success.

Qualifications

Essential: A tertiary qualification in education and current full teacher registration.

Appropriate Post-graduate qualification

Special conditions The successful applicant is required to gain a Department for Human Services (DHS) working with children check (WWCC) prior to being employed which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry.

The incumbent will be required to undertake RRHAN –EC (Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect - Education Care) Facilitator Lead (Masterclass) extended course or the online (Fundamentals) course which will be required to be updated every three years.

Remuneration

STL3 $152,287 per annum (1.0 FTE) + superannuation (12%)
